CHMA Drop-ins will resume January 6th!
CHMA Drop-ins will be taking a break following the Saturday, December 16th Holiday Playlist Hangout, and will be starting back up on January 6th from 1-3pm due to the Wallace McCain Student Centre being closed for the Holiday Season. Though we hope to see you at the Holiday Playlist Hangout, if not, Happy Holidays and a New Year from the folks over here at CHMA!
Sackville Sports Wall of Fame
The Sackville Sports Wall of Fame is now accepting submissions for 2024. The induction ceremony will take place in June 2024, and submissions are due January 12. If you know of an outstanding athlete, athletic official, or team you’d like to be recognized, fill out a nomination form! Candidates, including Mount Allison athletes, can be eligible for outstanding achievement in their field or for contributing to the development of their sport in Sackville. Perpetual Motion Dance Studio Christmas Troupe Showcase
Tickets are now on sale for Perpetual Motion Dance Studio’s Christmas Demonstration and Troupe Showcase. To see these dancers’ skills, head to Convocation Hall at Mount Allison for either the 1 pm or 6:30 pm performance on December 17th. You can buy a ticket at the dance studio or at Tidewater Books in downtown Sackville. For more information, email pmds@pmdance.com. December 17th
Listen Local, Support Local
As your community radio station, we know the importance of supporting all things local. We want to help promote your local business or organization on our airwaves. To sign up, head to our website at chmafm.com, go to Community News, then select Listen Local and Support Local. Holiday Playlist Hangout!
Happy Holidays from everyone here at CHMA! Do you want to delve ear-first into Holiday cheer? Why not stop by the CHMA Headquarters on the Third Floor of the Wallace McCain Student Centre on Saturday, December 16th from 1-3pm for a Holiday Hangout! Come relax, request your favorite holiday song, or even bring your own supplies to wrap those few remaining holiday gifts. CHMA Staff will also be available to give you a tour, answer any questions you might have about Radio, Podcasting, or Audio Production. As always, CHMA events are fun, free, and open to everyone! We cannot wait to see you there!
Tintamarre Community Concert Band: A Musical Celebration
On Thursday, December 14th, the Tintamarre Community Concert Band presents A Musical Celebration at the Brunton Auditorium at Mount Allison. Experience the musical magic at an evening of captivating melodies and vibrant performances. The performance starts at 7:30 p.m., and admission is by donation. Your support helps the Tintamarre Community Concert Band, formerly the Sackville Citizens Band, continue showcasing local musical talent. December 14
Voyent Alert
Voyent Alert is Tantramar’s emergency alert system. Major emergency notices are broadcast on your local radio stations and can also be sent directly to your phone by text. Residents can download the Voyent Alert app on the App Store or Google Play to receive a text, voicemail and/or an email when a major emergency is taking place in the Town. All residents are encouraged to register for the system by visiting voyent alert dot com here or by calling 364-4930.
Revealing Chignecto – Exhibition
The Isthmus of Chignecto, a narrow strip of land that links mainland Nova Scotia to New Brunswick, is today a quiet landscape of salt marshes and rivers. Parks Canada’s exhibit, “Revealing Chignecto: The Stories Within,” looks deeply at the history of this region and focuses on its archaeology: vestiges that represent millennia of Mi’kmaw communities, Acadian villages, and 18th-century forts. Memories live here, across Chignecto’s lands and waters. The exhibit is on display at the Visitor Information Centre in Tantramar (34 Mallard Drive) until January 25, 2024, open Monday to Saturday 9am-5pm until the end of December. Sackville Farmers Market Holiday Basket Raffle
This holiday season, the Sackville Farmer’s Market is holding a Holiday Basket Raffle. You can enter for a chance to win goods made by local artisans, gift certificates to local businesses, Sackville Farmers Market market dollars, and so much more. 1 ticket costs $2, but you can also buy 3 tickets for $5. The winner will be announced on December 21st, and they can pick up their holiday basket at the market on December 23rd. Tickets are available Saturdays from 9 to 12 at the Sackville Farmers Market at 18 Lorne Street, or online at sackvillefarmersmarket.ca. December 21st, 2023
Winter Parking Restrictions
Tantramar’s winter parking restrictions will come into effect on December 1st, 2023, and will be enforced until May 1st, 2024. Help keep the roads clear and safe by keeping your car off the street! Parking overnight between 1:00 and 6:00 am, or at any time that would interfere with snow plowing, is not permitted on any highway, street, or public parking lot that the municipality of Tantramar owns. Public Notice – Main St. Dorchester under Construction
Please be advised that a construction project to upgrade storm, curb, ditching, and resurfacing on Main Street Dorchester began on Monday, November 20th, 2023. This project will be active for approximately 2-3 weeks. There will be one lane maintained at all times throughout the construction period.
Parents & Tots Drop-In Playgroup
Every Thursday from 9:30 to 11 am, the St Andrews Presbyterian Church hosts a drop-in playgroup for families with children up to the age of 5. Toys, activities, and a healthy snack are provided to kids, with coffee and tea provided to caregivers! All are welcome to come play or chat in the Lower Hall of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church at 36 Bridge Street. For more information, call 506-536-3663.
CHMA Outreach for One-Off Radio Shows
Do you have a hot playlist you want to show off to the world, but do not know where to begin? Why not come to CHMA and do a live one-off radio show! There are no commitments beyond your initial show and we can find a time that works for you! People of all ages are welcome, and we will provide a brief training session to make sure that you are comfortable on the mic! Please head to chmafm.com, go to ‘Get Involved’, and scroll down to ‘Book Time’ to schedule your quick training session, and email getinvolved@chmafm.com if you have any questions!
Ongoing Dorchester Indoor Playground
Every Saturday from 10 am to noon, the Dorchester Veterans Community Centre hosts a drop-in indoor playground for preschoolers. Children of any age up to 5 can enjoy themselves on a free, accessible playground while their parents relax and chat. Adult supervision is required. MTA Open Observatory Night (MOON) (EXP Ongoing)
MTA Open Observatory Nights (or MOON) are held on the first and third Thursday of every month by the Mount Allison Physics Department. Visitors of all ages can head to the Mount Allison Gemini Observatory from 8:30 to 10 pm to connect with faculty, see stars and planets through the telescopes, and ask questions about the universe. These events are subject to change due to weather conditions: Check mta.ca/mago [M A G O] by 5 pm the day of for confirmations or cancellations.
CHMA Drop-In information Sessions (EXP Ongoing)
Come join us at the CHMA headquarters for two drop-in information sessions every Tuesday from 7-9pm, and Saturday from 1-3pm. CHMA staff will be available on the third floor of the Mount Allison Student Centre to show you around, help with your studio booking, or answer any questions you might have about getting on-air with us, producing your own podcast, or using our audio production studio. If you would like to learn how easy it is to get involved with your local community/campus radio station please reach out to us at getinvolved@chmafm.com.
Dress to Impress: Professional Clothing for Students (EXP Ongoing)
The Dress to Impress Closet is a free professional closet available to everyone. The Closet stocks professional attire for job interviews, conferences, internships, or any situation when you might need office-professional clothing. If you are in need, visit Dress to Impress located in the Mount Allison Chapel basement. Additionally, clothing items do not need to be returned and are size and gender inclusive. If you have professional clothing to donate please drop them off at any one of the yellow donation bins located in both the Student Centre and in the Mount Allison Library.
Free Parent & Tot Skate (EXP Ongoing)
The Town of Tantramar is offering a free ‘Parent and Tots Skate’ every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10:15 to 11:15 am in the Tantramar Veterans Civic Centre throughout the ice season. Sackville Meditation Group (EXP Ongoing)
The Sackville Meditation Group meets for 1 hour every Monday evening at 5:15 pm on the 2nd floor of the Sackville United Church located at 110 Main Street. Join like-minded, experienced and inexperienced folks for an hour of mindfulness and awareness, in a sitting and walking meditation. Tea and conversation will follow. Free Lunchtime Skates (EXP Ongoing)
Skating is a common Canadian past-time and a great way to stay active! Tantramar is offering free Lunchtime Skates at the Tantramar Veteran’s Memorial Civic Centre at 182 Main Street in Sackville. This free skating time is available daily from Monday to Friday between noon and 1:30 pm. Schedules can change on short notice, so check out sackville.com/calendar and click on Lunchtime Skates for more details.
