Over its 20 year journey, many people have played a role in bringing Sappyfest to life, from the artists that take to the stage, to the faithful audience that shows up to see them, to the many volunteers and organizers. But none of it would be possible without those who started it all.
As the 20th anniversary edition of Sappyfest kicks off today, CHMA brings you a conversation with one of the founders of Sappyfest. Jon Claytor reminisces about the origins of the festival and sheds some light on the ethos that has kept it going for two decades.
The Sappyfest 20 lineup includes artists such as Alan Syliboy, Julianna Riolino, Jah’Mila, and Julie Doiron, who will be joined by some longtime collaborators on the Sappy stage. Venues include the giant white tent covering the Bridge Street main stage, as well as the Sackville Legion, Ducky’s Pub, the Owens Art Gallery, Ralph Pickard Bell Library and Bill Johnstone Memorial Park.
