Tonight is the last regular council meeting until September, and will be the last scheduled meeting until a committee of the whole on August 24.
There are three items on the agenda which will be held in a closed session after the public portion of the meeting, which starts at the usual time of 7 pm.
Council will first decide on several topics, including street closures for September’s Pride Parade, as well as a triathlon on August 22, liquor licensing for a proposed event at Beech Hill Park, and whether to authorize the signing of the emergency mutual aid agreement, of which Tantramar is the only municipality that has not signed.
They will also decide on the purchase of a SCBA compressor unit for Sackville Fire and Rescue for $82,508.06, and eight gas detectors for Point De Bute and Sackville Fire totalling $23,741.75.
Moving on to public presentations, council will hear an update on the Centre Village gas plant by NB Power’s Brad Coady. There will also be presentations on the Cookville solar project, which promises to supply up to 150 megawatts of renewable electricity, the ongoing façade restoration project at Struts Gallery, and a resident presentation on the current procedural by-law.
After that, staff are expected to provide updates on the elevator for the Tantramar Veterans’ Memorial Civic Centre, as well as provide proposals for the upcoming Acadian Day, the replacement of failed pumps at the Ogden Mill Road lift station and a gifting agreement with the province regarding refurbished firefighting equipment.
Finally, there will also be a motion from Councillor Kristen Leblanc. According to reporting from Bruce Wark, Leblanc said at the recent protest against the Tantramar gas plant that she would bring forth a motion to reaffirm council’s opposition to the plant.
