National Day for Truth and Reconciliation events
October 1 @ 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm
Mount Allison University will mark National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day with events focused on Indigenous culture, learning, reflection and reconciliation.
- Sept. 29, 11 a.m. : Every Child Matters flag raising outside Owens Art Gallery.
- Sept. 30 : University closed; everyone is welcome to attend campus events.
- 11 a.m.–12 p.m. : Community Talk & Cultural Teaching with Mi’kmaq knowledge keepers Junior Peter-Paul and Nicole Porter.
- 1–3 p.m. : I AM GITXSAN film screening, followed by Q&A and discussion.
- Lunch: Jennings Dining Hall, $12.18 + tax.
- Oct. 1, 1 p.m. : KAIROS Blanket Exercise at Tweedie Hall; RSVP to indigenous@mta.ca.
The day honours Residential School Survivors, their families and communities, recognizes the lasting impacts of residential schools, and highlights the importance of Truth and Reconciliation.
Oct. 1 also begins Mi’kmaw History Month, offering further opportunities to learn about Mi’kmaw history, culture and knowledge.
