Staff at the medium-security prison in Springhill, NS, seized over $1 million worth of drugs and other contraband earlier this week.
Packages containing the unauthorized items were found at Springhill Institution on Sept. 21, according to a Sept. 23 news release from Correctional Service of Canada.
Seized items reported included methamphetamine, shatter, cannabis, hashish, tobacco and cellphones, with a total estimated institutional value of $1,161,500.
The institution is investigating, and police have been notified.
Correctional Service of Canada says it uses a number of tools to restrict contraband from entering its institutions, including a toll-free tip line that allows people to remain anonymous when reporting anything suspicious.
