On today’s show, CHMA looks into the status of the Wheaton Covered Bridge on the High Marsh Road, which was closed to traffic last July.
At a meeting in April, Tantramar MLA Megan Mitton presented a number of options to local stakeholders, and while there was concensus on the urgency of the situation, there is still disagreement on the best solution. Heritage advocates would like to see the bridge remain where it is on the High Marsh Road, and have another modern bridge built nearby. But farmers are concerned that could take too long, and are asking for the covered bridge to be moved to make way for a modern crossing. The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure says it has not yet made a decision.
We hear from Chignecto Soil and Crop Association member Fred Anderson, Tantramar Heritage Trust president Logan Atkinson, and Jolicure resident and petition organizer Elita Rahn.
