According to a notice posted by Mount Allison University, the COVID-19 case in Mount Allison’s off-campus community<\/a> has been confirmed as a COVID-19 variant by New Brunswick Public Health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Acting Vice-President International and Student Affairs Anne Comfort updated students and staff Monday evening, saying, “Public Health requires that all non-essential in-person student and public activities at Mount Allison be cancelled for the time being.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In-person classes may still happen, as long as COVID-19 protocols are followed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Until further notice all planned non-academic events and gatherings are cancelled, the Libraries and Archives will be closed to in-person visits and will offer online services only, the Athletic Centre and the Fitness Centre are closed, and the Pond is closed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Comfort also says, “Public Health has also requested that members of the Mount Allison community limit their non-essential activities as much as possible at this time and leave home only for classes, work, and necessary errands.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is the third case of COVID-19 in the Mount Allison community since the pandemic began.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The university says all identified close contacts of the person are self-isolating, but contract tracing is continuing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The case is in a person who lives off-campus, and Mount Allison has not said whether it is a staff person, faculty member or student. The school has also not disclosed whether the case is travel related or related to previous case. All recent Zone 1 cases announced by Public Health have been confirmed as one or the other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So far, there are two public exposure notifications related to the case on the Mount Allison campus. Anyone who was present for one of the following locations and times should self-monitor for symptoms, but does not need to self-isolate, according to the memo:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
