The (unofficial) results are in. Shawn Mesheau is the new mayor-elect of Sackville. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hear Shawn Mesheau in conversation Tuesday night, after unofficial results were announced:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the Elections NB unofficial results website<\/a>, Mesheau won the mayoralty contest with 1067 votes. That’s 52.8% of the ballots cast (2020), and 22% of eligible voters (4852). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ron Aiken received 858 votes, or 42.5% of ballots cast, and 17.7% of eligible voters. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

All five of the incumbent council candidates won their seats for another term, including Andrew Black<\/a>, Allison Butcher<\/a>, Micheal Tower<\/a>, Bruce Phinney<\/a> and Bill Evans<\/a>. Three new candidates won seats, including Matt Estabrooks<\/a>, Kenneth Hicks<\/a>, and Sabine Dietz<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2020 ballots were cast in Sackville, out of a possible 4852 eligible voters. 41.6% of eligible voters cast a ballot, which is a significant drop from the 2016 elections, in which 46.83% of eligible Sackville voters cast a ballot. Province-wide for all contests, turnout was 30.35%, down from 2016, when it was 32.9%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

INCUMBENTS SWEEP RHA AND DEC<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Incumbents also took the day in both the Regional Health Authority and District Education Council contests. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Michelle Folkins of Dorchester will remain as the Tantramar representative on the Anglophone East District Council after taking 35% of votes cast. Challenger Brian Neilson took 21.5% of ballots cast. The turnout in the Tantramar subdistrict was relatively high with 39.24% of eligible voters casting a ballot (4817 ballots out of a possible 12,277).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For RHA, Pauline Gallant of Saint-Louis-de-Kent took 45.9% of ballots cast, with Sackville local Laura Reinsborough taking 43.4%. The turnout for RHA elections are much lower than that for DEC or town council. Only 19.08% of eligible voters cast a ballot in this district for Horizon RHA elections (7042 ballots out of a possible 36,902). <\/p>\n\n\n\n
