Struts Gallery has some unspent cash, since they were unable to hire artists-in-residence this year, and new director Paul Henderson has decided to put the funds towards a Fall Fair parade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He\u2019s looking for an artist to take on the task of conceptualizing and building a one-of-a-kind float that will be driven down Sackville streets. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The artist will be given creative liberty to build a moving sculpture or performance of sorts, with funds to cover their time and supplies. Struts will provide a trailer to pull the masterpiece.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Henderson says that he hopes the float will help strengthen the relationship between Struts and the town of Sackville.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I just like to be present in the community…We’re participating in the broader mainstream community culture. I think that’s good to support, especially coming out of COVID[-19]. We’re still here, and we’re excited. We want to be out and about and create some new partnerships, and have an opportunity to gather as well.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There aren’t many limits imposed by Struts, other than it has to make it to the end of the parade, but Henderson does want to remind anyone submitting an idea that the Fall Fair parade is a family event. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also encourages people who are on the fence about participating to get in touch with him, as he’s happy to help artists brainstorm or work out any kinks in their plan. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I’m very happy to kind of consult and walk through an idea, or discuss the trailer sizes… I’m happy to help do that before a proposal is submitted, I’m happy to kind of chat things out with people. It’s a lot of problem solving…A lot of artists produce off-site physical work, so I have a pretty good grasp on some of the resources, human and otherwise, in town that might be able to help those kinds of things.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
