{"id":2376,"date":"2020-05-06T08:24:29","date_gmt":"2020-05-06T11:24:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.chmafm.com\/welcome\/?p=2376"},"modified":"2020-05-06T13:12:43","modified_gmt":"2020-05-06T16:12:43","slug":"news-script-may-6-2020","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.chmafm.com\/welcome\/news-script-may-6-2020\/","title":{"rendered":"News script May 6 2020"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And now for the CHMA news:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A man in the Fredericton region has tested positive for COVID-19, ending more than two weeks without any newly reported cases in the province.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Chief Medical Officer of Health Jennifer Russell answered questions about this new case at an unscheduled press conference on Tuesday.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Russell said it\u2019s likely this case is either travel related, or related to contact with people who had the virus, but were not symptomatic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Russell said the new case does not change the course planned for New Brusnwick\u2019s gradual reoperning.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>AUDIO clip Russell clip 1<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-audio\"><audio controls src=\"https:\/\/www.chmafm.com\/welcome\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/May-5-Russell-clip-1.mp3\"><\/audio><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;<em>what we know is that we will never be able to achieve and maintain zero cases in perpetuity. So it was never our goal to have zero in perpetuity. Our goal was always to be able to live with the virus knowing that the population is armed with as much information and as much knowledge to protect themselves as possible. And that moving forward that we would be able to manage the cases as they popped up and do the contact tracing and make sure people self isolated and make sure that the healthcare system was not overwhelmed. So this is going to be a cycle that we&#8217;re going to see some, some people refer to it as a dance. Some people refer to it as different waves. So we&#8217;ve been through our first wave. most jurisdictions see a second wave, we might see a third and fourth wave depending on how things go. But if we are aware that this is going to be the expectation moving forward, then again, everybody is armed with that knowledge they can protect themselves as individuals, employers can take the proper steps to protect employees and their patrons as we move forward. So that is the type of work that has to be done. To lift measures very safely and gradually.<\/em>&#8220;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another person who has tested positive for COVID-19 passed through the Moncton airport on Monday, April 27th. The person was a passenger on WestJet flight 3456 from Toronto.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Russell said that the person was not tested in New Brunswick.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>AUDIO CLIP Russell 2<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-audio\"><audio controls src=\"https:\/\/www.chmafm.com\/welcome\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/May-5-Russell-2.mp3\"><\/audio><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;<em>We have determined that the individual in question landed in Monckton and we understand that this person is in another province. Any person who was on westjet flight 3456 on April 27, is directed to self isolate and contact telecare. 811 or their primary health care provider of symptoms develop. <\/em>&#8220;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Russell said she was not planning to have extra testing in place around the airport and flight.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The province announced only 171 new test results on Tuesday, the lowest number in several days.&nbsp; 65 of those test results were in the South East region.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">********<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dr. Matthew Betti is an assistant professor in Mathematics and Computer Science at Mount Allison University and part of a national team helping to build model frameworks for potential COVID-19 scenarios in Canada.&nbsp; In an interview with CHMA news, Betti described his work and how it helps predict the needs for personal protective equipment.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Betti described how important the role of testing has become in the fight to control the virus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">AUDIO CLIP Betti 2<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-audio\"><audio controls src=\"https:\/\/www.chmafm.com\/welcome\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Betti-clip-2.mp3\"><\/audio><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;<em>So the rate of testing according to our models, and there&#8217;s a consensus with other people&#8217;s model or with other models within the task force, the consensus is that testing rate is the number one driver of limiting the epidemic. Everything else is more or less secondary&#8230;anything is subject to a lack of control if your testing is not sufficient. If we had not ramped up testing, then we would have no idea if these knew this new phase is actually working or not.&nbsp;<\/em>&#8220;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Stay tuned to CHMA later today for the full interview with Dr. Matthew Betti.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">*********<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sackville town council met Monday and officially approved a town initiative to give people a small break on their water bills. \u00a0 Residents won\u2019t have to pay the usual $20 sewage treatment fee on their water bills for the first quarter of 2020. The decision will cost the town about $40,000 in total,\u00a0 which would otherwise have gone to a reserve for the eventual replacement of Sackville\u2019s sewage lagoons.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The town will also waive interest for overdue accounts from March through to May 2020, and extend the no-interest and seniors discount period from 30 to 60 days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dog tag renewals, which were due March 31st, are now postponed until further notice.&nbsp; Once normal operations begin again, dog owners will have a thirty to sixty day window to get their pets up to date, with no late penalties.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">*****<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Town of Sackville is calling for nominations for its annual Volunteer Recognition awards.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The town is accepting nominations until June 1st in the four categories, recognizing 10 years, 25 years, and 50 years of community service.&nbsp; There is also an award recognizing volunteer service for students in Tantramar Regional High School and its feeder schools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Check out CHMA\u2019s community news page for links to nomination forms.
