New Brunswick had another day with no new reported cases of COVID-19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
All 120 reported cases of COVID-19 in the province have recovered, leaving New Brunswick with no active cases of the disease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For the fifth day in a row, the testing rate in New Brunswick dropped, with just 218 new test results announced Tuesday. 51 of those results were in the South East region. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Over in Nova Scotia, one more person died with COVID-19, bringing the provincial death toll up to 56. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
New case numbers continue to drop, with one new case announced Tuesday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
There are now only 32 active cases of COVID-19 in Nova Scotia, according to provincial public health officials. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Twenty-six of the active cases are among residents and staff at a large long term care home in Halifax. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The provincial government is calling teachers back to work for the final three weeks of the school year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Teachers and school staff will go back to work as early as June first, with their final day being June 23rd. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The province says staff and teachers will be able to complete outstanding tasks for the school year, including finalizing home learning options, participating in professional development, and preparing for the next school year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Each school district will be responsible for developing a return to work plan, with staggered schedules or shifts if necessary to maintain public health orders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New Brunswick\u2019s eviction ban will end on May 31st. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The province issued an announcement Tuesday reminding renters and landlords that the section in the state of emergency order that prevented evictions for non-payment of rent will end this month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As of June 1st, landlords will again be allowed to serve tenants with a notice to vacate for non-payment of rent. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Back in April, when anti-poverty group ACORN Canada surveyed over 1000 renters across the country, they found 34% said that they didn\u2019t have enough money to pay their rent for May. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Around 15% of those short on rent said they would have to rely on payday or installment loans, borrow money from their family members, or use their credit card to cover rent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ACORN survey also found that 15% of renters were already facing threats of eviction from landlords. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The provincial announcement says the Residential Tenancies Tribunal will work with renters and landlords to attempt a mediated agreement for payment, when payment in full is not possible. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tenants will be required to provide evidence that they are unable to pay rent due to financial issues related to the pandemic. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Court documents reveal that there were warning signs that the man who murdered 22 people in Nova Scotia last month was dangerous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Halifax Examiner reports that acquaintances of the gunman interviewed by police said he was a \u201cpsychopath,\u201d a \u201csociopath,\u201d and \u201cparanoid.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The heavily redacted documents summarize interviews with eight different people, six of whom appear to have known the gunman well. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The documents show the gunman was known to abuse his partner, collected an alarming number of weapons, and owned several replica police cars. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Two people interviewed said that the gunman had recently purchased large quantities of gas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
None of the people interviewed had reported the gunman\u2019s behaviour to the police. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Last week, the Examiner featured an interview with a former neighbour of the gunman. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The woman called the RCMP several years ago to report the gunman\u2019s possession of illegal weapons and his abuse of his partner.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The neighbour was told there was nothing that could be done unless eyewitnesses to the assaults, or the victim herself, came forward. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Codiac Regional Police arrested a Moncton woman last week after executing a search warrant as part of an ongoing drug investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The police seized drugs including cocaine and crystal meth, along with two prohibited weapons. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The police report doesn\u2019t specify the quantity of drugs seized, or the charges laid against the woman.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The investigation is ongoing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sackville Mayor John Higham issued a video address to town residents on Monday.\u00a0 Higham thanked essential workers, and the work of the volunteers on the Tantramar COVID-19 Task Force.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a call to support local businesses, Higham seemed to confirm that both the summer chalk festival and the fall fair will not be happening this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
