Despite announcing nearly 2300 new test results, the province reported no new cases of COVID-19 in New Brunswick yesterday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a press release Chief Medical Officer of Health Jennifer Russell reminded people that even those with negative test results should monitor for symptoms for 14-days, the incubation period for the virus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There are 12 active cases of COVID-19 in the province, all in Zone 5, the Campbellton region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Russell says that 300 people in the region are currently self-isolating due to possible close contact with others carrying the virus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nova Scotia reported one new case of COVID-19 yesterday. There are now 13 active cases of the disease in the province, all at a long term care home in Halifax.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mount Allison has announced its plan for the school year beginning this fall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a release issued yesterday afternoon, President Jean Paul Boudreau [Boo-droh] said Mount Allison will offer online courses, but that some courses will feature in-person elements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Residences will also be open, but with single rooms only, and measures in place to assure distancing can be maintained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Boudreau says that courses in the sciences, music, and fine arts often require some on-campus activities, such as labs, tutorials, and studio components.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Boudreau says the university will make adjustments in classrooms, labs, and studios to meet public health guidelines and the continuing need for physical distancing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Library, Meighen Centre, and Experiential Learning and Career Development will continue to operate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Boudreau says the university is working on contingency plans for what will happen if the province reverts to more strict public health guidelines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Course registration for the fall and winter terms is now open for all students<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hundreds of people gathered in Moncton streets yesterday to protest racism and police violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Protesters knelt and raised their fists for an extended moment of silence in memory of George Floyd, who died from asphyxiation after a Minneapolis police officer knelt on his neck for more than eight minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Anti-racism and police violence protests have been happening across Canada in the past few days, sparked by the death of Floyd, but also the death of Regis Korchinski-Paquet, who fell from her high-rise balcony shortly after Toronto police arrived to help her and her family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One of the organizers of the Moncton event was high school student Nellys Kilgora, who said she has experienced racism in Moncton.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The CBC\u2019s Tori Weldon reports that Kilgora addressed the crowd to thank them for attending and said: \u201d\u2019I needed your voices, with my small voice no one would have heard me.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The daughter of a Nova Scotia woman who was killed in the mass shooting in April is adding her voice to those calling for a public inquiry into the massacre, which claimed the lives of 22 people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Darcy Dobson lost her mother Heather O\u2019Brien, a V-O-N nurse, after a gunman went on a rampage in several Nova Scotia communities on April 18 and 19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dobson shared an emotional plea on her personal Facebook page Sunday, calling on both the provincial and federal governments to hold a public inquiry into Canada\u2019s worst mass shooting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nova Scotia\u2019s premier has said Ottawa must take the lead on any public inquiry into the shooting because the RCMP is a federal agency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, many legal experts have said that is not the case, and have also urged the province to start laying the framework for an inquiry now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Premier Stephen McNeil says the province\u2019s attorney general has been in talks with his federal counterpart regarding an inquiry, but there\u2019s no word on how that\u2019s going, or if they\u2019re making any progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has said the RCMP is still working on the case and the federal government will work with Nova Scotia on what to do next, but he hasn’t committed to a federal inquiry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
