The use of cellphones and other personal electronic devices won\u2019t be allowed during classroom hours at public schools across Nova Scotia beginning this fall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Education Minister Becky Druhan announced a new provincewide directive yesterday, which will have students turn off their personal mobile devices and store them out of sight during instructional time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Elementary schools will require students to store their devices for the entire school day, but junior high and high schools will be permitted to have their own rules regarding phone use during lunch and other breaks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nova Scotia will join Ontario, Quebec and British Columbia, which already restrict cellphone use in schools, while New Brunswick also plans to implement its own restrictions in September.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Equinor says its tentative Bay du Nord oil project in Newfoundland and Labrador\u2019s offshore is still presenting challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Energy N-L says the Norwegian energy giant is still trying to find ways to improve the project\u2019s business case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The energy industry association says Equinor executive Tore loseth told a crowd at its annual conference that he will leave no stone unturned in looking for a way to make Bay du Nord affordable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The company is set to begin drilling in the Bay du Nord region this summer in an effort to find more oil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(NB-Crash-Fatality)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police in New Brunswick say a 34-year-old man has died following a vehicle crash.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They say officers responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash on Highway 2 near New Market on the morning on May 27th.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They say the 34-year-old was the driver and only occupant of the vehicle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police say the driver lost control of the vehicle, which then crashed and caught fire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(NS-Yarmouth-Ferry)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bay Ferries says bookings are up 18 per cent over this period last year for its ferry that runs between Yarmouth, Nova Scotia and Bar Harbor, Maine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As of June 5th the ferry has booked 23-thousand 188 passengers and has transported two-thousand 873 passengers and one-thousand 278 vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The CAT ferry began its sailing season on May 17th and is operating five days a week until June 20th when the daily service begins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ferry will return to five day service on September 17th which will continue until the final sailing of the season on October 15th.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The New Brunswick government is reminding the public about health risks associated with cyanobacteria– also known as blue-green algae.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The naturally occurring bacteria is found in many ponds, lakes and rivers, taking the form of blooms and mats which are normally not visible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The province’s acting chief medical officer of health says cyanobacteria are harmful and may produce toxins that can cause skin, eye and throat irritation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The toxins can also be harmful to pets, fish, wildlife and livestock.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(NL-Ferry-Argentia)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ferrry service that links Nova Scotia with Newfoundland says the opening of the seasonal route between North Sydney and Argentia will be delayed until June 26th.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Marine Atlantic says repairs are needed for a new ferry called the Ala\u2019suinu (ah-LAH’-soo-ee-NOO’).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Customers affected by the delay will be re-routed through the Gulf service, which links North Sydney with Port aux Basques, which will offer additional crossings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
