A New Brunswick municipality went to court this week to force a resident to take down a tent his church has been using for services. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Philip Hutchings of the Higher Life Church, formally known as His Tabernacle Family Church, has been holding services in a large tent on a property outside of Saint John that the municipality says contravenes the building code act. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Officials with the Municipality of Fundy-St. Martins went to court for an order to remove the tent, alleging the church has also violated the nuisance bylaw and has been the subject of many noise complaints. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hutchings has agreed to take down the tent within three months and empty the contents of the tent within 30 days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A historic sawmill and museum in southwestern Nova Scotia has been destroyed by a weekend fire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The chief of the Meteghan Fire Department says early Saturday morning the volunteer department was alerted to a blaze at the Bangor Sawmill Museum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kevin Saulnier says when firefighters arrived the museum was already engulfed in flames, and it took more than four hours to put out the fire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
No one was injured in the blaze, and Salunier says it’s not yet clear what caused the fire. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A move by the New Brunswick government to join Alberta in applying for intervener status in Saskatchewan\u2019s Parents\u2019 Bill of Rights Court of Appeals case is being met with skepticism by at least one M-L-A.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The prairie province\u2019s Parents\u2019 Bill of Rights is similar to New Brunswick\u2019s Policy 713, which requires schools to get parental consent before a student is allowed to change their name or pronoun if under the age of 16.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With a provincial election in New Brunswick just over five months away, Progressive Conservative M-L-A Andrea Anderson-Mason questions whether the move is politically motivated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Word of New Brunswick\u2019s intentions came in a news release issued late Friday afternoon and Attorney General Hugh Flemming says the case revolves around a constitutional issue about whether the notwithstanding clause is the final word when a legislature invokes it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
