A Nova Scotia judge has decided that the insolvent SaltWire newspaper chain can maintain protection from its creditors until August 8th.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During a hearing on Friday in Halifax, Nova Scotia Supreme Court Justice John Keith also approved an additional 1.1-million dollars in interim financing for Saltwire and The Halifax Herald, which will bring the total projected borrowing during the insolvency proceedings to 4.1-million dollars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, the private lending firm that pushed the chain into insolvency in March says negotiations aimed at selling the media companies have reached a critical phase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Last week, the monitor overseeing the potential sale of the deeply indebted companies confirmed the selection of an unnamed bidder who has plans to operate the companies as viable businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(NL-Labrador-Fires)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A ban on the setting of fires has been lifted on the island of Newfoundland but remains in effect for Labrador, where the threat of wildfires continues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ban in Labrador prohibits anyone from starting a fire in the forest or within 300 metres of a forest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The province says significant firefighting resources have been dedicated to suppressing the wildfire near the evacuated Labrador community of Churchill Falls and that the ban will help reduce the risk of further fires.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro says although it has started planning for residents to return to Churchill Falls, only critical staff have access to the town at this time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

R-C-M-P in Nova Scotia\u2019s Cumberland County say a 55-year-old man is dead following an A-T-V crash.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police say the crash occurred Thursday on Barronsfield Road in River Hebert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A Can-Am side-by-side was found in a ditch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Mounties say the driver, who was from River Hebert, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(NB-Fatal-Crash)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police in New Brunswick say a 22-year-old man has died, following a single-vehicle crash.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
R-C-M-P say officers responded to a report of a crash on Route 114 in Fundy National Park between Shepody Road and Wolf Lake on Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They say the driver of the vehicle died at the scene, while the passenger was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
An autopsy will be scheduled to determine the man’s exact cause of death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(NS-Missing-Firearms)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police in Nova Scotia say four firearms are missing after an alleged break and enter at a store.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They say officers responded to an intrusion alarm at a business in the 9000-block of Highway 105 in Whycocomagh on Wednesday, and found that multiple firearms and ammunition were missing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police say they’ve recovered five firearms and some ammunition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They have also identified two men of interest — one is described as having wavy, long, dark-coloured hair, and glasses, and was wearing a red hoodie, and grey or camouflage pants; while the second is about five-feet-eight, wearing a black sweater and grey pants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(PEI-Trail-Horses)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Horse riders will once again be allowed to use designated rural sections of P-E-I’s Confederation Trail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Those sections will be open from July 1st to October 31st.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The horse-friendly trails will remain open from 30 minutes after sunrise to 30 minutes before sunset.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The provincial government is offering advice to walkers and cyclists who encounter horses on the trail, saying they should move to the right and — quote — “greet the rider in a friendly, relaxed tone.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
