Hundreds of people gathered in Newfoundland and Labrador’s capital city yesterday to pay their respects to a soldier who has finally returned home from the battlefields of France after more than 100 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The unknown Newfoundland soldier was laid to rest in a black granite tomb at the National War Memorial in St. John’s in a military ceremony attended by guests including Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Governor General Mary Simon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ceremony to mark the soldier’s reinterment coincided with the 100th anniversary of the unveiling of the war memorial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Unknown Soldier was flown to Newfoundland in May after a years-long repatriation effort that involved local veterans, the provincial and federal governments and the Canadian Armed Forces. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Forty-four people from 17 countries became Canadian citizens in Halifax yesterday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ceremony at Halifax’s Pier 21 included an opportunity for people to hear about each newcomer’s path to Canadian citizenship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada says yesterday’s event is one of 60 citizenship ceremonies the federal department will hold across Canada this year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Police say one person is dead after they were hit by a train in New Brunswick.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
R-C-M-P say officers were called to the area of Victoria and Robinson Streets in downtown Moncton, just after 6 a-m yesterday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Mounties say officers had to temporarily shut down several local streets because of the collision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They say the person hit by the train died from their injuries. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

(NS-Stabbing)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police in Nova Scotia have charged a man with attempted murder after a stabbing that left a woman with life-threatening injuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
R-C-M-P say they received a report in the early hours yesterday from a man who said he’d stabbed a woman he knew in Colchester County.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They say officers arrested the 41-year-old Tatamagouche man and provided first aid to the woman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The 45-year-old Tatamagouche woman was taken to hospital and the man was arrested and charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(Halifax-Water-Advisory)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Halifax and nearby areas are under a boil-water advisory after a power interruption at a treatment facility that allowed “a limited amount of unchlorinated water to enter the system.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Halifax Water says affected customers in Halifax, Beaver Bank, Middle and Lower Sackville, Hammonds Plains, Bedford, Timberlea, Spryfield and Herring Cove should boil all water for at least one minute before using it for consumption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That includes drinking, cooking, preparing infant formula, brushing teeth and any other activities where water is ingested.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
