A fire has destroyed a fish processing plant in Petit-Cap, New Brunswick.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Deputy fire chief for the area Yves LeBlanc told C-T-V they received a call about smoke at the Elphege and Norbert LeBlanc plant around 5 a-m yesterday morning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Firefighters found the vacant plant on fire, and while a main building was destroyed in the blaze, one building was saved and no injuries were reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
LeBlanc says about 45 firefighters from six different departments were on scene, and the province’s fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(NB-Sexual-Assault)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
R-C-M-P in New Brunswick are asking parents to speak with their children after the arrest of a 25-year-old man following an alleged sexual assault.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police say officers responded to a report of sexual interference and sexual assault at a public water park on Mountain Road in Moncton at around 2 p-m on Sunday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They say they learned that a man had been walking around the area, allegedly groping people, and there were at least 12 victims, some of whom were under the age of 16.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They say the man was arrested and later released from custody, and is scheduled to appear in Moncton provincial court on October 24th. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A new rapid analysis says human-caused climate change made the record-breaking Eastern Canada heat wave last month “much more likely.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Environment and Climate Change Canada says its first-of-its kind analysis shows the heat wave over parts of Atlantic Canada was made two to 10 times more likely because of climate change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Officials say Canada’s new rapid extreme weather event attribution pilot program can determine whether and to what extent climate change made a specific heat event more likely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Scientists say attribution studies can also underline the effects of planet-warming emissions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

(NB-Homicide)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A 40-year-old New Brunswick man has been sentenced to eight years in prison in connection to the killing of a 39-year-old man.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
R-C-M-P say Nathan Meade told police back in November of 2022 that he had shot someone in Nash Creek.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police then found a man dead behind a shed on the property of a residence and the victim was identified as Scott Devereaux.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meade was initially charged with second-degree murder, but that charge was later withdrawn and he pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of manslaughter in May of this year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

(Halifax-Tree-Attack)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Many of the trees in Halifax’s public gardens that were attacked almost two years ago are showing inspiring signs of recovery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the summer of 2022, sometime between July 25th and 26th, a person or group scaled the gardens’ fence and hacked away at the bark around the circumference of about 30 trees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Arborist Stan Kochanoff says he is hopeful they are healing because he sees signs of callousing on their bark and because the trees sprang leaves or flowers this spring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A spokesperson for the City of Halifax says two small trees have been removed and two mature trees did not leaf out this year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

(NB-Jail-Construction)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Construction of a new 66-million-dollar provincial jail in Minto, New Brunswick, is now in the phase of sewer and water infrastructure, with completion expected by late 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The land for the new site has been cleared, access roads have been built, and tenders are set to be issued next month for foundation and steel work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Progressive Conservative government has cited rising crime and the existing system often being crowded as reason for the new jail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, in interviews with C-B-C two criminologists say jails usually do little to reduce this problem, and suggest more drug addiction and mental health programs are a longer term and less costly solution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nova Scotia R-C-M-P say two men in their 30s have now been charged in the 2022 death of a 64-year-old man in Digby County.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Vernon Doucet died from his injuries following a violent home invasion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dillon Burton Deveau of Yarmouth has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This comes after Tyler Langford of Weymouth was arrested last month and also charged with second-degree murder in the case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
