Newfoundland and Labrador Premier Andrew Furey says crews were on the ground doing preliminary work around the perimeter of the fire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Water bombers from the province and Quebec doused it from above.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An online fundraising page has identified 13-year-old Eli Young as the victim of last week’s flash floods in western Nova Scotia. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
A friend of Eli’s family says the boy’s loved ones are shocked by his death. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Eli was swept into a ditch in a Wolfville park on Thursday in a flood that caused extensive damage across western Nova Scotia. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

(NS-Emergency Alerts)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Nova Scotia government is criticizing municipalities for their decision not to request an emergency alert during flooding last week that killed a 13-year-old boy and caused extensive damage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Municipal Affairs Minister John Lohr says an alert must normally come from the municipalities because they are best positioned to prepare messages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lohr says the province had to take the unusual step of issuing an alert on its own at 8:30 p-m after more than 100 millimetres fell in a few hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The alert was issued three hours after reports describing submerged roads and people fleeing their homes, and an hour after R-C-M-P received a call about a youth who disappeared into a drain ditch. (The Canadian Press)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

R-C-M-P in Nova Scotia are investigating a fatal collision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They say officers responded to a call about a collision between a truck and a van at the intersection of Highway 14 and South Rawdon Road, just before noon on Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They say the 25-year-old van driver was pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is an increasing sense of grief for residents of a Nova Scotia town repeatedly hit with extreme weather events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jennifer Moore was helping a neighbour on flood-prone Stannus Street, in Windsor last week when she fell face-first in waist-deep brown water in her driveway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It was the third time in three years the catch basin on the street overflowed, after 1.2 metres of water mixed with sewage poured into Moore’s basement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
