Members of Nova Scotia’s Black community say they will rebound after five people were shot over the weekend at a reunion of former residents and descendants of Africville, a historic neighbourhood in north-end Halifax.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a social media post, reunion organizer Vincent Williams says despite the \u201chateful and senseless terror\u201d on Saturday night that left the Africville community reeling, they will pick up the pieces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Nova Scotia government says it has opened a helpline for anyone seeking counselling after the shooting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police say five people were injured and one victim has potentially life-threatening injuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pro-Palestinian demonstrators briefly occupied a building at Halifax’s Dalhousie University on Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Outside, their protest encampment that had been on the school’s downtown campus since May was dismantled by staff and security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
By Monday afternoon, the protesters had left the building and outside, their tents and signs had been removed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A Dalhousie spokesperson declined to comment on the encampment removal, and Halifax Regional Police did not immediately say if anyone was arrested or fined.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nova Scotia’s police watchdog agency is investigating after a man was left with injuries following his arrest in Cape Breton.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Serious Incident Response Team says it was contacted July 24 by the Cape Breton Regional Police Service about the incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
SIRT says members of the force were watching the man as part of an ongoing investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It says officers found the man in a vehicle on a dead-end street, and after a struggle the suspect was left with serious facial injuries and a broken elbow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(NL-Makeshift-Morgue)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Newfoundland and Labrador government has more than doubled the financial assistance it offers low-income residents who need to pay for a burial or a cremation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The province says it will now offer up to five-thousand dollars for a funeral, and up to 15-hundred dollars for additional expenses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The move comes after intense scrutiny as the number of unclaimed bodies in freezers at the province’s largest hospital more than doubled between November 2021 and January of this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Health officials said there were 30 unclaimed bodies at the Health Sciences Centre in St. John’s as of Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(NB-Realty-Agency-Suspended)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A New Brunswick realty agency has permanently lost its licence over breaches of the Real Estate Agents Act.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
New Brunswick’s Energy and Utilities Board ordered the licences cancelled in February over allegations that trust fund accounts were misused and that the agency failed to comply with licence conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The board fined the agency 30-thousand dollars and its manager, Paul Burns, 15-thousand dollars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The agency had sought to appeal the ruling but eventually withdrew its application.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
