The New Brunswick government is investing 3.6-million dollars to improve safety in eight Mi\u2019kmaw (MIG-MAW) communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Mi\u2019gmaw Peacekeeping Initiative will train safety officers in Mi\u2019kmaw communities to focus on early intervention and de-escalation protocols.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The communities of Buctouche, Eel River Bar, Burnt Church, Fort Folly, Indian Island, Red Bank, Eel Ground and Pabineau will all be involved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The initiative is an alternative to enforcement-based approaches to community safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A 31-year-old Wellington, P-E-I man is facing a number of charges including forcible confinement, assault and weapons offences after a woman was reportedly held at gunpoint in the province.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The R-C-M-P say they got a call from a woman yesterday who said she thought her daughter was being held against her will by a man with a gun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When the Mounties went to a home in St. Raphael where the couple was believed to be, both had left but a pellet rifle was found in the driveway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The suspect surrendered later that day after police found the couple at another home before there was a vehicle and foot chase. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Six clean electrical energy projects in Nova Scotia are receiving more than 192 million dollars in federal funding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Federal Energy Minister Jonathan Wilkinson announced the investment yesterday at the Halifax headquarters of Nova Scotia Power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Wilkinson says 117.6 million will fund three 50-megawatt battery storage systems to be operated by the utility in Bridgewater, at Spider Lake near Waverly and in White Rock.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He says three wind farm projects will receive 25 million each from Ottawa\u2019s 4.5-billion dollar Smart Renewables and Electrification Pathways Program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This includes the Benjamin Mill project near Windsor, the Higgins Mountain project and the Wedgeport wind farm in the District of Argyle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(Titanic-Submersible-Hearing)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The U-S Coast Guard will hold a public hearing about the deadly Titanic submersible disaster that took place last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The hearing is scheduled to begin on September 16th and go over two weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The experimental Titan submersible imploded en route to the Titanic 435 kilometres off the southern coast of St. John\u2019s, Newfoundland in June 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
All five passengers were died in the tragedy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(NS-Entangled-Whale)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A critically endangered North Atlantic right whale has been spotted entangled in fishing gear off the northeastern coast of New Brunswick.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The federal fisheries department says a team of scientists observed the animal among a group of right whales east of Miscou Island, on Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The scientists say the whale is an adult male known as Dropcloth, but they are uncertain of his age.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The department says it doesn’t know where the fishing gear came from or what type it is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(NS-Dalhousie-Reopening)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dalhousie University says it expects to reopen today after its Halifax campuses were closed late Monday night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The school announced the closures after pro-Palestinian protesters occupied a building on its Studley Campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The university says Halifax Regional Police responded to the protest and the building was cleared after regular business hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
University president Kim Brooks says the day was taxing and emotional.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(NL-New-Boat)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Canadian Coast Guard officially welcomed into service in a ceremony held in Newfoundland\u2019s Burin Peninsula yesterday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The coast ship Barrington Bay is a high-endurance search and rescue lifeboat that has been operating in the province since November.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jerry Wagg, a Burin local who is a long-time worker in the marine industry, was selected to break a ceremonial bottle over the Barrington Bay\u2019s bow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Barrington Bay is the 15th \u201cBay Class\u201d search and rescue lifeboat welcomed into the coast guard fleet since 2017.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
