Atlantic Canadians are being advised to keep their eyes on the forecast following tropical storm Debby’s Category 1 landfall in Florida.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Debby is moving northward through the eastern United States and could impact the Maritimes, with heavy rainfall and high winds projected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The latest forecasts say Debby will drop its most of heavy rainfall just west of the Maritimes, but forecasters say an eastward wind could bring gusts and rain to the Atlantic provinces. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A cross-border business conference is coming to Atlantic Canada after a successful meeting in Mississippi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A Canadian business delegation went south to attend the Southeastern United States \u2014 Canadian Provinces Conference to discuss ways to strengthen cross-border relations and enhance private sector trade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
New Brunswick Economic Development Minister Greg Turner says the conference has helped solidify the province’s commitment to drive up economic development for both regions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The conference goes to Saint John, New Brunswick, in June of 2025. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

(NB-Child-Care-Action-Plan)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The New Brunswick government is expanding on a plan aimed at strengthening early learning and child care in the province.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The five-year plan outlines key goals for where federal funding can be applied to better strengthen the provincial system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The goals include increasing access to high-quality early learning and child care, reducing out-of-pocket fees paid by families, and providing an inclusive learning space for children. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The agreement involves the federal government providing nearly 492-million dollars on top of the provincial government’s contribution of 53-million dollars. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

(NS-Indigenous-Health-Lawsuit)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The family of an Indigenous woman in Nova Scotia has filed a lawsuit in Supreme Court claiming negligence in her death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The suit says 22-year-old Destiny Rennie experienced “brain death” on August 3rd of last year and was pronounced dead a few days after with meningitis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The family says Rennie was mistreated by doctors who thought she was a drug user, that hospital staff were “generally negligent” in monitoring her symptoms as her health deteriorated, and that staff dismissed her mother’s concerns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The allegations have not been tested in court. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

(NS-Short-Term-Rentals)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Government of Nova Scotia is announcing new regulations on short-term rentals to try and address the urgent need for housing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Municipal Affairs and Housing Minister John Lohr (LORE’) says Nova Scotians need housing but many houses and apartments that could potentially be long-term homes are being rented on a short- term basis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Short-Term Rentals Registration Act will include new registration requirements, host categories, rates and penalties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Possible fines for non-compliance range up to 100-thousand dollars. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

(PEI-Hog-Farm-Fire)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Authorities in Prince Edward Island are investigating a large fire at a hog farm in Albany.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
R-C-M-P say several buildings were engulfed in flames early Tuesday morning and firefighters responded to the scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police say they believe many of the animals died in the fire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Authorities are expected to release more details. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
