The federal immigration minister says claims that Ottawa would compel New Brunswick to take four-thousand-600 asylum seekers aren’t true.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Marc Miller was addressing comments by New Brunswick Premier Blaine Higgs yesterday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Higgs claimed on Wednesday that Ottawa was considering a plan to send asylum seekers to the province without providing financial assistance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking after a Liberal caucus meeting in B-C, Miller said the premier’s comments are “largely fictitious,” adding that “at no time” had officials said no financial assistance was available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(NB-Child-Luring-Arrest)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Codiac Regional R-C-M-P says it has arrested a 40-year-old man in connection to a child luring investigation in Moncton.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Mounties say another police force alerted them to the Edmonton man living in Moncton, and that they searched a home on Sixth Street.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police say several items were taken, including digital evidence of child luring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(NL-Wind-Project)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A massive wind energy project for the Burin Peninsula has been formally registered with Newfoundland and Labrador\u2019s Environment Department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
EverWind Green Fuels is proposing to build and operate three separate wind farms north and south of Marystown, and south of Swift Current, consisting of 15-hundred turbines in total.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The 10-gigawatt onshore project would also include three solar farms and a hydrogen-ammonia production facility, also near Marystown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The project was registered yesterday and a decision by Environment Minister Lisa Dempster is due on October 26th.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(NS-Tenant-Protections)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nova Scotia’s opposition parties say they can’t understand why the government insists the province doesn’t need an enforcement unit to help settle disputes between landlords and tenants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The parties’ reactions come after the government released a 300-thousand-dollar report on Wednesday that laid out how such a unit would work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Halifax firm Davis Pier Consulting was mandated by the government in 2022 to study how an enforcement unit could manage disputes more efficiently, and the company delivered its report more than a year ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Minister of Service Nova Scotia Colton LeBlanc says it was determined upon reviewing the report that such an enforcement unit would result in more red tape and longer dispute resolution times for both landlords and tenants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(NB-Teacher-Shortage)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The New Brunswick Teachers’ Association says it\u2019s worried about the province’s heavy reliance on staff without education degrees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The province’s anglophone school district says they are 32 teachers short of what they should have to operate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They are in a deficit despite hiring 132 people without education degrees who were brought on to fill gaps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
These staff are under local-permit contracts, which don’t require a teaching degree, and the head of the teachers’ association says he’s worried the province is too reliant on these workers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(NS-Police-Gun-Probe)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police in northern Nova Scotia are probing whether more than 40 rifles and shotguns discovered during a bust over the summer at two rural homes are part of a bigger trafficking scheme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
R-C-M-P Corporal Troy Gill told C-B-C that police were surprised to find such a large cache of guns during a search of homes in the small communities of Hansford and Birchwood, just east of Oxford.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Gill says it was the single largest seizure of firearms he’s seen in his career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Two people were arrested on the day of the searches — a 39-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman, who are each facing more than 200 charges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
