Halifax Regional Police are investigating a homicide after the body of a woman was found in an apartment complex in the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police say the dead woman was found during a well-being check Thursday at Quingate Place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service has ruled the death a homicide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police say the investigation is in the early stages and details are limited, but they do not believe the death is random.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The federal government is launching an independent review of a subsidy program aimed at lowering food costs in remote Indigenous communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Department of Northern Affairs announced yesterday that the external review of the Nutrition North program will begin next year with a final report expected in 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Launched in 2011, the subsidies have come under fire in Nain, where the cost of healthy food more than doubled in the program\u2019s first decade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lynn Blackmore, a food security expert with the Nunatsiavut government, says subsidy adjustments are needed now in Nain to bring down the soaring cost of groceries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(Wastewater-Cannabis)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Wastewater tested in Halifax in 2023 contained almost twice the amount of cannabis metabolites compared with samples taken from other big cities in Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The results are from a survey conducted by Statistics Canada, which tracked various drug metabolites in the wastewater in Halifax, Montreal, Toronto, Saskatoon, Edmonton and Vancouver.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In Halifax, the survey found 748 milligrams of T-H-C metabolites per one-thousand people per day \u2013 well above the 448 milligrams average among the surveyed cities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dalhousie University professor, Dr. Phil Tibbo, says while there\u2019s no way to know for sure why Halifax\u2019s rate is so much higher, he believes it could be due to cultural acceptance of the drug in Nova Scotia’s capital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(NS-Drug-Trafficking)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
R-C-M-P in Eskasoni, Nova Scotia say they have charged two people with drug trafficking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Mounties executed a search warrant on Raspberry Lane on October 9th, where they found cocaine, cash, cellphones and other drug paraphernalia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They say a 42-year-old man from Elsipogtog (El-SEE’-book-took), New Brunswick, and a 48-year-old from Eskasoni have been charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The two men were released from custody and are scheduled to appear in court in Eskasoni on December 10th.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
