Power has been restored to most of the New Brunswick homes that were in the dark this weekend after wet, heavy snowfall hit the region on Friday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
At a peak, around 40-thousand people were without power on Friday morning, with the Fredericton, Miramichi and Upper River Valley areas being hit the hardest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As of Saturday afternoon, roughly 35-hundred people in New Brunswick were still without power, with most getting power back by midday Sunday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Environment Canada says the forecast in New Brunswick should remain clear until Thursday, when flurries are expected overnight in Fredericton.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(NB-Ukrainian-Christmas)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Ukrainian Club of Moncton hosted its third annual Ukrainian Christmas Fest in New Brunswick over the weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The event included workshops, performances and food vendors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It also featured a large buffet full of traditional Ukrainian food. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The club president says the event is about raising money to support Ukraine’s military and to bring some Ukrainian culture to Moncton.\u00a0

(NB-Seafood-Funding)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
New Brunswick and the federal government are providing the province\u2019s seafood sector with 38 million dollars to help it use technologies to improve efficiency and product quality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The funding will go to 32 projects involving processors and 21 projects involving the development of oyster, salmon and arctic chair aquaculture operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sixteen harvester projects will also get funding to acquire new equipment and to help maintain product quality and sustainable fisheries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The money is from the Atlantic Fisheries Fund, which concludes on March 31st, 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced 7.1 million dollars in federal support over three years for P-E-I\u2019s school food program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The money is from Ottawa\u2019s one-billion dollar, five-year universal national school food program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
P-E-I is the fourth province to sign on to the program, joining Newfoundland and Labrador, Manitoba and Ontario.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Premier Dennis King says his government will add 15 million dollars on top of the federal three-year contribution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

R-C-M-P in Nova Scotia have arrested a man for an outstanding warrant and 18 different offences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police say on Thursday officers responded to a report of an assault in Oxford. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The subject of the call fled, and R-C-M-P officers located him driving and deployed a spike belt to deflate his tires. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The suspect was arrested and charged with 18 offences, including assault, uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm and assault with a weapon. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

There will be a recount in one of Nova Scotia’s electoral districts after there were just seven votes separating the top two candidates in last week’s provincial election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Progressive Conservative candidate David Bowlby and Liberal candidate Carman Kerr were the two leading candidates in the district of Annapolis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A recount is required under the Elections Act when the number of votes separating two candidates is less than 10. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Only 45 per cent of eligible voters in Nova Scotia turned out to the polls for the election, making it one of the lowest voter turnouts in the province\u2019s history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(NS-Mass-Shooting-Report)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The committee monitoring how the R-C-M-P and governments are responding to the inquiry into the Nova Scotia mass shooting has released its first annual report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Myra Freeman, chairwoman of the progress monitoring committee, says she is pleased with the progress reported so far.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In particular, Freeman pointed to progress made by Ottawa and Nova Scotia on dealing with issues of gender-based violence — a key theme investigated by the Mass Casualty Commission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The report, however, says little about the R-C-M-P responses because the work of the national police force has yet to be assessed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
