Police in Newfoundland say a 64-year-old man facing dozens of youth-related sex charges is now facing several new charges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary says Anthony Humby was to appear in court in St. John\u2019s to face seven charges of trafficking persons under the age of 18.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They allege the offences occurred between 2006 and 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Humby now faces a total of 79 charges related to 13 complainants, while a co-accused, 82-year-old Bruce Escott, has pleaded guilty to seven charges and is to be sentenced in 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More than 40 years after being told she was a threat to Canada because of her sexuality, Diane Pitre is being given one of the country’s top honours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Campbellton, New Brunswick resident and advocate for L-G-B-T-Q+ members of the Canadian Armed Forces, is among 88 new appointees to the Order of Canada announced today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Pitre, who was kicked out of the service in 1980 as part of what has become known as The Purge, says the award is an honour and something she never expected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Others named to the order include “Deadpool” movie star Ryan Reynolds, Holocaust survivor and educator Mariette Doduck, geneticist David Chitayat, curler Kevin Martin and Heather Rankin, a member of the award-winning Cape Breton band The Rankin Family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

R-C-M-P in western Newfoundland say a 55-year-old man is dead following a two-vehicle collision on the Trans Canada Highway near Jeffreys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police say the crash occurred yesterday between a pickup truck and an S-U-V.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They say the driver of the S-U-V, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected and died at the scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The two people who were travelling in the pickup truck were taken to hospital in Stephenville and were later released.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

R-C-M-P in Nova Scotia\u2019s Cumberland County are asking for the public\u2019s help after a vehicle approached a child in the town of Springhill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police say the incident occurred yesterday on Princess Street.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They say the driver of a silver S-U-V attempted to get the child into the vehicle, but the child was able to run away unhurt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The driver is described as a white man, approximately five feet five inches tall and was wearing a black coat, beige pants, and a gaiter-style mask with the Boston Bruins logo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(PEI-Nurse-Practitioners)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A new report released this week shows growth in P-E-I\u2019s health care workforce, particularly when it comes to nurse practitioners and family physicians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Canadian Institute for Health Information says the province’s supply of nurse practitioners per 10-thousand population grew from 7.6 in 2014 to 37.5 in 2023 \u2013 a growth rate more than twice the national average. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The data shows that P-E-I\u2019s family physician supply grew by 6.3 per cent in 2021, 4.1 per cent in 2022, and 5.8 per cent in 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In contrast, national growth saw increases of only 1.4 per cent in 2021, 1.8 per cent in 2022, and a decline of -0.1 per cent in 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Former fixture on the Halifax Harbour waterfront has partially sunk while docked at a port in St. Catherine\u2019s, Ontario.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A news release says the replica tugboat Theodore Too took on water late yesterday and is now partially submerged beside a dock in shallow water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The release says the cause of the incident is unclear, and efforts are being made to get Theodore floating once again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Theodore Too was sold in 2021, and the boat made the journey from Halifax to Ontario the same year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
