A man in Brigus South \u2014 a community along the coast about 60 kilometres south of St. John\u2019s \u2014 says he\u2019s blown away by the rough waters and pounding waves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ian Gillies says he’s been in the area for 14 years, and this is by far the highest surf he’s ever seen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He says he’s seen snow plows working to clear large rocks that have been swept up from the ocean onto roadways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A 60-year-old woman from Moncton, New Brunswick has died after being hit by a car as she was walking to her vehicle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The R-C-M-P says the woman was struck on New Year’s Eve by a driver who didn’t see her until it was too late.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police says she was transported to hospital but died on Friday as a result of her injuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A member of the New Brunswick Coroner’s office and an R-C-M-P traffic expert are assisting with the ongoing investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(NS-Suspicious-Death) R-C-M-P in Nova Scotia are investigating two suspicious deaths in Mahone Bay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police say around 1 p-m Sunday, they responded to a request for a wellbeing check on two people who live in a home on Long Hill Road. Officers found the remains of two adults inside the residence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The two people were known to each other and the deaths are being treated as suspicious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Environment Canada has issued a winter storm warning for Nova Scotia’s Cape Breton island.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The weather agency says between 20 and 35 centimetres of snow may fall by the end of today in Inverness and Victoria Counties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the Cape Breton Highlands, the forecast is calling for as as much as 90 centimetres of snow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The weather agency has also issued wind warnings for Sydney and Richmond County.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A real estate development company in New Brunswick is proposing changes to a downtown Fredericton building that has sparked criticism from some residents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Centennial Heritage Properties has filed an application with the city to revise the proposed facade for the Centennial Building, which was built in 1967.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The new proposal includes balconies that jut out from the building supported by columns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Building neighbour Flord Jackson says it’s disappointing to see proposed changes that alter the look of the important structure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emergency responders say they were called to a second aircraft emergency in one week at the Halifax Stanfield International Airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Emergency responders were called to the airport at approximately 1:30 p-m Saturday after an inbound aircraft was reported to be experiencing cabin pressure issues on a flight with 177 people on board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A social media post by Nova Scotia Fire\/Emergency Info says emergency responders from the surrouding area were immediately dispatched and the aircraft landed safely without incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On December 28th, an Air Canada flight from St. John’s, Newfoundland, had a rough landing when arriving at the Halifax airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Brett Gallant and Jocelyn Peterman have defeated Brendan Bottcher and Rachel Homan 8 to 7 to win the Canadian mixed doubles curling trials on Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Gallant and Peterman took the victory by limiting Bottcher and Homan to a deuce in the eighth end at the tournament being held in Liverpool, Nova Scotia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They will now wear the Maple Leaf at the 2026 Milan Olympics if Canada qualifies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Gallant and Peterman will also represent Canada at the April 26-May 3 world mixed doubles championship in Fredericton, which determines which nations go the Olympics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
