Photo: Erica Butler, June 2022<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The new doctor is Richard Br\u00fbl\u00e9, who made his way to Port Elgin after working as a doctor in the US, Fredericton, and Ontario.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">CHMA caught up with Br\u00fbl\u00e9 at the April <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chmafm.com\/welcome\/hospital-foundation-aims-to-raise-150k-for-primary-care-centre-now-serving-1650-patients\/\">launch of the Sackville Hospital Foundation\u2019s 2025 fundraising campaign<\/a>, which aims to raise $150,000 to help equip the new Tantramar Primary Health Care Centre in Sackville.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-audio\"><audio controls src=\"https:\/\/www.chmafm.com\/welcome\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Brule-interview-April-2025.mp3\"><\/audio><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Br\u00fbl\u00e9 says things at the clinic have been going well since he started practicing there in mid-January. Initial visits took a little more time since the clinic implemented electronic medical records when he started, but \u201conce the charts are built, the time spent is a lot more efficient,\u2019 says Br\u00fbl\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition to serving as a family physician in Port Elgin, Br\u00fbl\u00e9 takes a one week rotation every two months as a hospitalist, looking after patients admitted to the Sackville Memorial Hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Br\u00fbl\u00e9 says one of the reasons his family was attracted to Port Elgin is family connections. Photo: Erica Butler<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Br\u00fbl\u00e9 had been living and working as a solo practice in Ontario, which he says is not ideal. \u201cThere&#8217;s a lot of financial difficulties with it,\u201d says Brule. \u201cThere&#8217;s just too much that takes me away from primary care.\u201d So when the family learned Horizon had a primary care vacancy at the Port Elgin clinic, \u201cit was a perfect opportunity,\u201d says Br\u00fbl\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI wanted to come back to being a salary physician dealing only with medicine and and not have to worry about all the business aspects,\u201d says Br\u00fbl\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He says he\u2019s had the usual hurdles in a new workplace. \u201cIt took a while for me to figure out how to order things, like just how things work here,\u201d says Br\u00fbl\u00e9. And now, the goal is to expand the clinic. The previous nurse practitioner had about 800 patients, says Br\u00fbl\u00e9, and a family physician can typically handle around 1400. \u201cSo we are expanding,\u201d says Br\u00fbl\u00e9. \u201cI\u2019m responsible for the E4M postal code.
