(Fed-Elxn-NL-Recount) A judicial recount is beginning today for the Newfoundland and Labrador riding of Terra Nova \u2014 The Peninsulas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The recount is being held because the difference between leading Liberal candidate Anthony Germain and Conservative party candidate Jonathan Rowe is 12 votes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Elections Canada says the recount will be conducted by Justice Garrett Handrigan of the Superior Court of Newfoundland and Labrador.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Saturday, the Liberals inched another seat closer to a majority government after a judicial recount left their candidate as the winner in the Quebec riding of Terrebone, by a margin of just one vote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(NS-Fatal-Crash)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nova Scotia R-C-M-P say five people have died after a two-vehicle crash near Falmouth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police say it’s believed a Honda Civic and Nissan Sentra were travelling in the eastbound lane on Highway 101 between Falmouth and Hantsport when they collided Saturday around 11 p-m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The driver and passenger of the Civic, a 43-year-old man and 45-year-old woman from Falmouth, were both pronounced dead at the scene, as were the 45-year-old and 58-year-old driver and passenger of the Sentra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mounties say two other passengers, a 50-year-old man and 29-year-old man, were taken to hospital, and the 50-year-old was later pronounced dead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Atlantic music stars Classified, Kellie Loder and Maggie Andrew emerged as top winners at this year’s East Coast Music Awards in St. John\u2019s, Newfoundland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nova Scotia’s Classified took home Solo Artist of the Year, Producer of the Year and Rap\/Hip-Hop Release of the Year for his song “Sure Enough,” and Release of the Year for the track “Amnesia.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Newfoundland and Labrador\u2019s Loder won both the T-D Fans\u2019 Choice Entertainer of the Year and Fans\u2019 Choice Video of the Year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Andrew, from Halifax, came away as the winner of African Canadian Artist of the Year and Rock\/Alternative Release of the Year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Nova Scotia premier says the 25-thousand dollar fine for illegal fires is here to stay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Premier Tim Houston says the staggering fine introduced during the devastating wildfires in 2023 will be in place annually from March 15th to October 15th between 8 a-m and 2 p-m \u2014 and any other time officials say burning is not allowed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Houston says the fine was in effect last year, and the province saw its quietest wildfire season on record.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A volunteer fire department in rural Newfoundland says a wildfire on the west coast of Conception Bay ultimately damaged more than 40 structures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The North Shore Volunteer Fire Department says the wildfire near Adam’s Cove was one of the most destructive fires ever witnessed in the province, and the most severe to impact the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The department says the fire last week devoured nearly six-hundred square kilometres of land.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Crews from nine surrounding volunteer fire departments helped battle the blaze, and there were offers of help from even more departments nearby.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
