New Brunswick’s environment minister has recused himself from an environment assessment for an industrial park in Saint John because of a perceived conflict of interest. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Gilles LePage says he is stepping back from the Sprice Lake Industrial Park assessment because of his dual roles as environment minister and minister responsible for the regional development corporation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
LePage says stepping back is the best course of action to ensure accountability and transparency with the project. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

(NB-Nursing-Agreement)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The union representing nursing home workers in New Brunswick says it has signed a new collective agreement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With more than 45-hundred workers at more than 52 nursing homes, the New Brunswick Council of Nursing Home Unions says the new agreement marks a historic win for workers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The union’s previous contract expired in late 2022, and negotiations with the previous government had stalled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ottawa is arguing that Nova Scotia and New Brunswick\u2019s legal case claiming it is responsible for the Chignecto Isthmus is a \u201cwaste and abuse\u201d of the court\u2019s time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Federal lawyer Lori Ward told the Nova Scotia Court of Appeal yesterday that the issue before it is actually a political \u201cpressure tactic.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The provinces maintain it is Ottawa’s responsibility to protect rail, power and communication lines from climate-change impacts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

(Heritage-House-Saved)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A heritage group is applauding a court decision that prevents Dalhousie University from demolishing a 128-year-old house.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Heritage Trust of Nova Scotia issued a statement yesterday saying the decision from the Nova Scotia Court of Appeal highlights the importance of heritage registrations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Court heard that after the house at 1245 Edward Street was purchased by the Halifax university in 2021, the school decided the building was too expensive to maintain and sought to demolish it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A community group organized opposition, and the house was granted heritage status — leading to a series of legal battles that culminated in the Appeal Court decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(NS-Crown-Gold-Lease)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Nova Scotia government has agreed to a Crown-land lease for a new gold mine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The provincial government says the Department of Natural Resources is granting Goldboro Gold Mining Inc. a lease for 779 hectares of Crown land near Goldboro, Guysborough County.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The company says it has signed community benefits agreements with the Assembly of Nova Scotia Mi’kmaw Chiefs and the Municipality of the District of Guysborough.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nova Scotia says granting the lease will help the mine generate new jobs and investment in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

R-C-M-P in P-E-I are seeing an increase in calls about escaped farm animals on Island roads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Mounties have received 80 such calls over the last year, 20 more than the year before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Corporal Gavin Moore told C-B-C News the complaints involve animals from cows and horses to geese and pigs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Animals are often retrieved without incident, but Moore says loose livestock can result in charges for the owner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
