The City of Fredericton has announced it will begin implementing recommendations from a task force that focuses on community safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The new ideas being submitted include increased surveillance throughout the city, as well as the creation of a new “ultra-low-barrier” transitional housing system for people experiencing homelessness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Originally formed last December, the task force is working toward a goal of bringing political, civil and non-profit workers together to help create better methods to address rising crime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Other improvements include installing lighting on trails, transit stops and streets, and the task force is also calling for a dedicated police unit to handle “petty crime.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The office of New Brunswick’s chief medical officer says it has finished the first data analysis in the investigation of an undiagnosed neurological illness in the province.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
More than 400 people have been affected by the sickness, and Chief Medical Officer Dr. Yves Leger says the results have been turned over to the Public Health Agency of Canada for scientific review. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Leger says the findings will help the province determine next steps in caring for these patients, most of whom are in the Acadian Peninsula and Moncton areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Their symptoms include memory problems and bursts of intense pain. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nova Scotia’s Glooscap First Nation of the Annapolis Valley is establishing a new commercial security company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Chief Sidney Peters says this new venture is another example of the First Nation’s commitment to fostering financial independence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
C-E-O of Glooscap First Nation’s investment arm Michael Peters says the business will offer surveillance, threat assessment, loss prevention and security guard services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The company says it will focus on hiring Mi’kmaq and other Indigenous candidates and aims to hire a staff of 100 people by the end of this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Labrador photographer has captured a photo of a rare black iceberg off the coast of Labrador.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hallur Antoniussen says he has never seen anything like it over the last 30 years of living in Carbonear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He says he has spent a long time at sea, spotting icebergs and large rocks in the water before — but this was new.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Antoniussen says the dark colour of the floating glacier is a puzzle, but someone suggested to him it could be from volcanic ash or an ancient volcanic eruption. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

(NL-Cycling-Trail)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Newfoundland and Labrador communities are set to get new cycling route networks in the near future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The West Coast Cycling Association is partnering with the province to help develop a contained network of cycling trails in the Lower Humber Valley.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The goal is to create a trail network that will keep riders off of resource roads, highways, or municipal roads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The total project cost is expected to 195-thousand dollars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Prince Edward Island government says it wants to hear public opinions on the second phase of the Temporary Foreign Worker Protection Act.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Act was passed in the provincial Legislature in spring 2022, with phase one coming into effect this past April.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The first phase introduced protections for temporary foreign workers and a licensing requirement for recruiters, while the second phase will create an employer registry and regulations related to administrative penalties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Feedback forums are available on the government’s website, with a deadline of July 21st for submissions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
