New Brunswick’s Horizon Health says it is expected to add 10 Indigenous patient navigators, bringing the total up to 12.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A news release from the health authority says Indigenous patient navigators help incorporate traditional healing methods in treatments and increase cultural awareness among staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It says about one million dollars has been put toward including Indigenous patient navigators in hospitals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It says the 10 positions are expected to be filled by fall. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

(NS-Cyber-Breach)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Provincial politicians are taking aim at Nova Scotia Power, saying the utility owes ratepayers answers after a cybersecurity breach gave thieves access to data belonging to 280-thousand customers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The utility\u2019s C-E-O and other staff were grilled at the public accounts committee yesterday about how the breach happened and what the company will do to protect its customers from financial harm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nova Scotia Power C-E-O Peter Gregg says the ransomware attack affected almost half of the utility’s customers, including 140-thousand customers who had given the utility their social insurance numbers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Chris Heck, chief digital officer with Nova Scotia Power’s parent company Emera, told the committee that the company identified unusual activity on their server on April 25th, but later determined the cyber-thieves had accessed the system as early as March 19th.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Police in the Halifax area are searching for a man accused of approaching a six-year-old boy and offering him a ride.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Halifax Regional Police say the incident happened in Dartmouth on May 31st, but it wasn’t reported until yesterday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Investigators say the child was approached on Bow Street, where the man also offered them candy — but the boy refused and ran home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The man was driving a beige convertible and is described as white, about 45 to 55 years old, balding with black hair and no facial hair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Nova Scotia man has been charged with multiple offences after he fled from police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The incident began mid-day on May 29th, after a Mountie tried to stop a grey Honda civic with no license plate on Highway 103 but the driver sped off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At one point the driver took the vehicle the wrong way down the busy highway, as the R-C-M-P started tracking the speeding car.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The driver was arrested in the community of Oakland — 14 kilometres north of Lunenburg — in early afternoon and has been charged with flight from a police officer and dangerous operation of a vehicle. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

(PEI-Grandparents-Scam)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police on P-E-I are warning residents that yet another grand parents scam is making the rounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Summerside Police Services says officers received a complaint earlier this month from a victim who gave up 65-hundred dollars to scammers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police say the victim was told to send the money to help a grandchild who had been in a car crash and needed money for a lawyer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police urge anyone who receive similar calls to check the authenticity of the information before sending any money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(NS-Hindu-Parade) <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Drivers in Halifax are being warned to avoid certain roads in the downtown on Saturday as a parade is scheduled to wind its way through the area. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The parade, which starts at 2 p-m, will celebrate the Ratha Yatra Festival of Chariots, which is a major Hindu festival. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The parade starts at the Garrison Grounds on Citadel Hill, then heads to Sackville Street, south on Brunswick Street, west on Spring Garden Road, north on South Park Street, east on Sackville Street and finishes back at Garrison Grounds. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Traffic delays are expected as there will be several stops during the parade for performances. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
