The Groves at Hillsdale will be operated by United Way Maritimes, and will eventually feature 47 residential units, including 19 affordable rentals and 28 homes for ownership.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Amherst CAO Jason MacDonald says the town contributed to the project through building $640,000 in sewer, water and street infrastructure because staff and council felt it was &#8220;the proper thing to do,&#8221; and the municipal commitment helped make the project happen. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sarah Flemming of United Way Maritimes says the new modified shared equity home ownership model used at The Groves &#8220;could disrupt the housing market as it currently exists,&#8221; and even &#8220;change the future, for generations.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Plus in briefs:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The municipality of Tantramar is trying to boost the number of dogs that are licensed and vaccinated against rabies with a &#8216;Rabies Out, Bandanas In&#8217; campaign.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Department of Transportation and Infrastructure minister Chuck Chiasson says that the province is working on a strategy for the maintenance of covered bridges, but he doesn\u2019t have a deadline for the plan.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On today&#8217;s show, we talk with some of the people behind a new affordable housing development springing up in Amherst.
