Photo: Erica Butler<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">New Brunswick Premier Susan Holt and tourism minister Isabelle Th\u00e9riault have been on a tourism tour this week, and CHMA caught up with the political pair at Bistro Le Chat Bleu in Baie Verte.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-audio\"><audio controls src=\"https:\/\/www.chmafm.com\/welcome\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/CHMA-Holt-and-Theriault.mp3\"><\/audio><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Holt and Th\u00e9riault had started off the day in Moncton at Tony\u2019s Bistro, then bike along the Petitcodiac River, later visiting Murray Beach Provincial Park before making their way to Baie Verte for lunch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt was great to talk to the staff [at Murray Beach Provincial Park] about all of the increase in activity, increase in amenities, the rustic cabins that they have, the more serviced sites,\u201d said Holt. \u201cAnd it was beautifully kind of quiet and a great place to hang out.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Holt said she\u2019s heard from people about transportation infrastructure issues in the rural area. \u201cWhen you\u2019ve got a very bumpy road that\u2019s been patched a lot of times, taking you to one of our provincial tourism assets,\u201d said the premier. \u201cThat maybe sends a message that we could improve.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis is the reason why it&#8217;s important to go out and see,\u201d said Th\u00e9riault. \u201cFor us to be on the ground and listen to people and see the infrastructure\u2026 We can see the province from our own eyes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In response to a question about how covered bridges fit into tourism planning, Th\u00e9riault said the historic bridges are \u201cbeautiful assets\u201d that are important to people. \u201cI\u2019m constantly having discussions with my colleague, Minister Chuck Minister of DTI,\u201d said Th\u00e9riault, \u201cand he realizes also that these are important assets for province.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Holt said she also understood the tourism value of covered bridges, and has an aunt who published a book of pencil drawings of the province\u2019s covered bridges. The premier said they were not considered \u201cjust bridges, but bridges with extra value when DTI is evaluating.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cDTI has a process for evaluating the value of an asset and its touristic value is included in those considerations,\u201d said Holt, \u201cas well as whether it&#8217;s a route that&#8217;s used for economic purposes, whether it&#8217;s a route to a hospital or a school, whether it&#8217;s a route where vulnerable people might be.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">CHMA also asked Holt and Th\u00e9riault about the possible future of provincial tourism information centres, given the recent demolition of the former Aulac Visitor Information Centre, which was shuttered by the department of tourism 7 years ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Holt said it was her understanding that numbers of visitors were down in welcome centres. \u201cPeople vote with their feet,\u201d said Holt, \u201cand they stopped visiting them.\u201d That\u2019s in contrast to the experience of former Aulac Visitor Information Centre manager Nancy Oulton, who told CHMA the centre was always busy during the three years she worked there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Th\u00e9riault said the Liberal government has undertaken a province-wide consultation to help them come up with a new five year strategy for tourism, the results of which are being compiled now. \u201cThere might be some some discussions about that,\u201d said Th\u00e9riault. \u201cWe\u2019re going to see what New Brunswickers told us, and we&#8217;re going to see how we can improve.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>New Brunswick Premier Susan Holt and tourism minister Isabelle Th\u00e9riault have been on a tourism tour this week, and CHMA caught up with the political pair at Bistro Le Chat [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":6,"featured_media":60236,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_tec_requires_first_save":true,"_EventAllDay":false,"_EventTimezone":"","_EventStartDate":"","_EventEndDate":"","_EventStartDateUTC":"","_EventEndDateUTC":"","_EventShowMap":false,"_EventShowMapLink":false,"_EventURL":"","_EventCost":"","_EventCostDescription":"","_EventCurrencySymbol":"","_EventCurrencyCode":"","_EventCurrencyPosition":"","_EventDateTimeSeparator":"","_EventTimeRangeSeparator":"","_EventOrganizerID":[],"_EventVenueID":[],"_OrganizerEmail":"","_OrganizerPhone":"","_OrganizerWebsite":"","_VenueAddress":"","_VenueCity":"","_VenueCountry":"","_VenueProvince":"","_VenueState":"","_VenueZip":"","_VenuePhone":"","_VenueURL":"","_VenueStateProvince":"","_VenueLat":"","_VenueLng":"","_VenueShowMap":false,"_VenueShowMapLink":false,"_tribe_blocks_recurrence_rules":"","_tribe_blocks_recurrence_description":"","_tribe_blocks_recurrence_exclusions":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[472,482,558],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-60235","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news","category-front-page","category-weekly"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.1 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/product\/yoast-seo-wordpress\/ -->\n<title>Holt and Th\u00e9riault talk roads, covered bridges, and visitor info centres on tourism tour of southeast &#187;
