New Brunswick public health has declared an outbreak of measles in the Sussex area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The province says one new case has been confirmed since last Wednesday, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to two.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It says other potential cases are under investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The regional medical officer of health is warning residents that measles spreads easily and quickly, and she is urging people to check their immunization status.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The P-E-I government says it is adding 12 new long-term care beds to a seniors home in Tignish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The province says the long-term care home run by a non-profit in the heart of the Tignish community now has 52 beds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Of the 12 new spaces, nine of them are already filled and the other three are pending.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The city of Summerside, P-E-I says it has signed a five-year 900-thousand dollar agreement with two of its cultural institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The money for the College of Piping and the Harbourfront Theatre aims to provide long-term stability and support for the delivery of arts, heritage, and cultural programming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Over the next five years, the college and the theatre will each get 90-thousand dollars annually to help deliver programming, community outreach, youth engagement, and collaborative events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As part of the new funding agreement, the college and the theatre have committed to working collaboratively on shared projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(NS-Auditor-Liberals)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A regulatory body has dismissed a complaint by the former president of the Nova Scotia Liberal Party against the province’s auditor general.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Joseph Khoury complained to Chartered Professional Accountants Nova Scotia last year after Kim Adair asked the RCMP to investigate potential \u201cconcealment\u201d of the theft of public money by a party employee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A spokeswoman for the accountants’ oversight body says it has dismissed “the complaint in whole” against Adair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Khoury was the party’s president when the theft was discovered in December 2020 and has claimed parts of Adair’s report were inaccurate and therefore breached the standards of the accounting profession.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A political scientist says the Nova Scotia government should be cautious as it considers giving mayors more power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Cape Breton University political scientist Tom Urbaniak says this type of change could create a system that’s like a \u201cmini American presidency.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ontario began granting more power to mayors in 2022, and now 215 mayors can veto bylaws, hire and fire department heads, propose bylaws and pass them with the support of one-third of councillors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Urbaniak says this model could be risky, and Nova Scotia would be wise to wait and see how stronger mayoral authority plays out in Ontario municipalities before following suit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
