A new five-unit housing complex in New Brunswick is coming to St. Stephen, offering affordable homes for families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The modular development on Main Street in the town is set to open this fall as construction nears completion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
New Brunswick\u2019s housing minister, David Hickey, says rural communities often struggle to find safe, affordable housing, so the province is excited to be welcoming tenants to the new facility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The province says there are nearly 39-hundred public housing units across the province, with ongoing plans to open more public housing units before the end of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New Brunswick police say they have arrested a 34-year-old woman in the attempted abduction of two children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Saint John police say it’s alleged that a child was riding a bike in the area of Eglington Court Saturday when the suspect attempted to take the child and was unsuccessful, and then allegedly threatened a family member of the child.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Another child who was in the vicinity of this incident was physically grabbed and once again a family member of the child intervened and was able to rescue the child.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Neither child sustained any physical injuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New Brunswick ventilation equipment manufacturer Systemair is spending 5.1 million dollars to modernize its Grand-Bouctouche and Moncton facilities with support from the province.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The company is getting a 957-thousand dollar loan from Opportunities N-B to help purchase a new automated sheet metal-forming production line, as well as a payroll rebate of up to 425-thousand dollars to help create up to 122 jobs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The company is a subsidiary of Sweden-based Systemair A-B, which designs, manufactures and markets ventilation products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The province says the facility in Grand-Bouctouche is one of that region\u2019s largest employers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Nova Scotia government has released its plan to address the transportation needs of the most populous part of the province.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Public Works Minister Fred Tilley says the goal of the Regional Transportation Plan is to transform the transportation system for Halifax and those areas within an hour\u2019s drive of the port city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tilley says the government has identified several projects for study, including an inter-municipal bus service, a core street review in Halifax, options for a new harbour bridge, new ferry terminals and new highway corridors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
N-D-P Leader Claudia Chender says the government’s document reads like a wish list and will do little in the short term to relieve growing traffic congestion in Atlantic Canada\u2019s largest city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There\u2019s more Nova Scotians coming forward to say the province needs to help social assistance recipients with the purchase of air conditioners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
New Glasgow resident Sandra Walsh \u2013 who has been diagnosed with a progressive lung illness — says when income assistance recipients have health conditions made worse by heat, the province needs to help them with the expense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Last year, another New Glasgow woman with chronic pain condition won her appeal for income assistance to fund an air conditioner, but the province says that victory isn\u2019t a precedent \u2013 and Walsh has heard nothing two months after she applied.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The province says people can go to charities for help with air conditioners or may be able to go to cooling centres to get through the heat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
