New Brunswick Premier Susan Holt has announced a sweeping ban covering all activities on Crown lands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The move prohibits hiking, camping, fishing and the use of vehicles in the woods on Crown lands, while trail systems are also off limits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Holt says the move is necessary to ensure safety and to protect the province\u2019s forests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The province is dealing with seven wildfires as of yesterday, including one out-of-control blaze on Oldfield Road in the Bartibog area northeast of Miramichi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The three Maritime provinces and Ottawa are spending nine million dollars to help restore air travel between P-E-I, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Under a three-year pilot program with PAL Airlines daily flights will be offered between Halifax, Sydney, Charlottetown, Fredericton and Moncton.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Passengers are expected to fly with the service later this year, although exact dates aren\u2019t yet known.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The joint funding includes five million from the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, 2.9 million from Nova Scotia, 840-thousand from P-E-I and 458-thousand dollars from New Brunswick.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Provincial officials in Newfoundland have announced that people who have evacuated their primary residence due to wildfires will be eligible for a 500 dollar payment administered by the Canadian Red Cross.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The government says to be eligible people must be registered with the organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Firefighters battled windy dry conditions yesterday as three out-of-control wildfires continued to range in the eastern and central part of the province.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Newfoundland and Labrador Crimestoppers also announced yesterday that it is offering a five-thousand dollar reward for information that leads to the identification and arrest of anyone who may be responsible for intentionally starting a fire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The P-E-I Fishermen’s Association says the fall lobster fishery in the Northumberland Strait will begin today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The fishing zone covers the strait from Victoria to North Cape and includes fishermen in southern P-E-I, northwestern Nova Scotia and southeastern New Brunswick.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The last day of the season is set for October 12th.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sixth and final Arctic patrol vessel for the Royal Canadian Navy has been officially named in a ceremony in Halifax.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The vessel has been named H-M-C-S Robert Hampton Gray, in honour of Lieutenant Gray, a navy pilot who was awarded the Victoria Cross posthumously.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Gray was the only member of the navy to be awarded the Victoria Cross during the Second World War.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jane Underwood, a descendant of Gray, officially named the ship yesterday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
