Nova Scotia officials are keeping a close eye on a fire in the Annapolis Valley.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Scott Tingley, manager of forest protection, says the Long Lake fire is expected to grow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It is spread over nearly 20 square kilometres and moving toward West Dalhousie Road in Annapolis County.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officials in Newfoundland and Labrador say cooler temperatures and low winds have helped keep wildfires from growing much over the weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The largest wildfire, burning along the northwestern shore of Conception Bay, however, remained at a stubborn 95 square kilometres yesterday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The wildfire has destroyed about 100 houses and forced three-thousand people out of their homes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An evacuation advisory has been lifted for the residents of Lavillette in northern New Brunswick.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There were 39 active wildfires with seven classified out of control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Oldfield Road wildfire near Miramichi remains the largest one, measuring roughly 14 square kilometres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(Atlantic-Air-Quality)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Environment Canada has issued an air quality warning and air quality statement for parts of the Atlantic coast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The weather agency says an air quality warning is in effect for Avalon Peninsula North in Newfoundland and Labrador with smoky conditions caused by wildfires from the Conception Bay North blaze.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The weather agency says a special air quality statement is in effect for Miramichi area in New Brunswick, and Annapolis County in Nova Scotia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It says those likely to be more affected by smoke, include people 65 and older, infants and young children, and those with pre-existing illnesses. (The Canadian Press)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(NS-Drugs-Firearms-Investigation)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police in Nova Scotia say a 42-year-old man has been arrested following a drugs and firearms investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They say a search of the man’s house and vehicles in East Preston allegedly yielded a loaded pistol with an overcapacity magazine, prepackaged cocaine and cash.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The man is facing a raft of charges, including unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition and possession of property obtained by crime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He is scheduled to appear in court tomorrow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
