Restrictions on activities in the woods put in place due to an elevated fire risk have been lifted in seven counties in Nova Scotia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Premier Tim Houston announced that effective yesterday, the ban on activities such as hiking, camping and using vehicles has been lifted in the four counties on Cape Breton island and three on the mainland including Guysborough, Antigonish and Halifax.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Houston says the move has been made because the fire risk is no longer extreme in those counties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The restrictions for activities in the woods remain in place for 11 other counties on the mainland, while Houston says the ban on open fires will remain in place across the province.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(NL-Wildfires)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
People in Newfoundland have been allowed to return to communities hardest hit by a massive wildfire, in some cases finding nothing left of their homes but concrete foundations and still-standing chimneys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Newfoundland and Labrador government lifted the last of its evacuation orders in Conception Bay North, allowing residents of Western Bay, Ochre Pit Cove, and Northern Bay to go home yesterday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
People could be seen walking slowly around their blackened properties, wiping tears from their eyes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The fire destroyed nearly 200 structures in several communities along a 15-kilometre stretch of coastline on the northwest shore of Conception Bay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(PEI-Sexual-Offences)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police in Charlottetown say they’ve arrested a 26-year-old man following alleged child-related sexual offences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They say officers received a report of sexual offences committed against a child by someone who was known to the family on the evening of August 20th.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They say the suspect faces charges of sexual assault, sexual interference, extortion and uttering threats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police say the man is in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on September 11th.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(NB-School-Zones)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police in Saint John, New Brunswick, are asking people to watch out for kids on the roads as the school year begins next week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police want to remind people that the maximum speed limit for school zones in the city is 30 kilometres per hour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They also say most fine amounts are doubled in school zones and for overtaking a school bus with flashing red lights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police say they are conducting a back-to-school safety campaign from Tuesday to Friday, focusing on school zones and bus routes where driving offences endanger students, pedestrians, and the public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(PEI-Long-Term-Care-Rate)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The P-E-I government says the daily rate for public long-term care homes in the province will increase starting Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The rate will go up from 114 dollars, 67-cents to 116 dollars, 96-cents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The province says about 85 per cent of residents are covered by the Long-Term-Care Subsidization Program and won’t be affected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Residents affected by the rate change have been contacted directly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
