The Sackville Film Society will open their new season September 18th at the Amherst Theatre in Nova Scotia. The season’s line-up includes a mix of current dramas, comedies and documentaries and are films made by Canadian, American and Foreign filmmakers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the helm of the society is retired Mt. Allison professor, Thaddeus Holownia, who has been steering the organization for an impressive forty-six years since he took it over in 1979. In the following interview, he illustrates the history of the organization, his enthusiasm for movies and the draw of being in a theatre space with an audience watching a film.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Going to the movies is an all encompassing social event. And when you go into a theater and you are surrounded with the energy of other people and you are surrounded by the film, ’cause it’s on a big screen with a great sound system, you end up having a physical experience that you don’t have sitting in front of a digital projection or a computer screen or an iPad and the energy level of that group of people is unbelievable.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
