Voters in Newfoundland and Labrador showed they were in the mood for change, ousting the Liberal government after 10 years to elect Tony Wakeham and the Progressive Conservatives. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Tories snagged 21 seats after voting yesterday, and will form a majority government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Liberals held onto 15 seats, while the N-D-P won two seats, along with two independents. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Wakeham won over voters by criticizing the Liberal’s controversial energy deal with Quebec, and focusing on cost of living issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New Brunswick is providing free test kits for radon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Radon is the leading cause of lung cancer in non-smokers, and the invisible, odourless radioactive gas seeps into homes through cracks and gaps in the foundation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It’s estimated one in four New Brunswick homes have high levels of radon gas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(NB-Homeless-Spending)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
New Brunswick has set aside nearly seven-and-a-half million dollars in emergency spending to help homeless people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The money will be distributed to eligible non-profit housing providers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
New Brunswick Housing Corporation minister David Hickey says his department has identified a few projects that could offer new housing spots before winter sets in, but does not have specific numbers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Non-profit group the Human Development Council says there are more than 900 New Brunswickers who have been homeless for an extended period of time in Saint John, Moncton and Fredericton. (The Canadian Press)

Communities ravaged by this summer’s wildfires want to be top of mind for whoever forms Newfoundland and Labrador’s next government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A wildfire burned for three weeks and destroyed about 203 structures along Newfoundland’s north shore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Small Point-Adam’s Cove-Blackhead-Broad Cove Mayor Curtis Delaney wrote a letter asking the party leaders and candidates to prioritize rebuilding communities in Conception Bay North.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That includes rebuilding an elementary school in Western Bay and supporting businesses lost or extensively damaged by the fires. (CBC News)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(NS-Mining-Portal)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nova Scotia has created a new online portal it says will allow mining companies to apply for permits and track their applications online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The provincial government says it’s part of its efforts to make it easier for mining firms to do business in Nova Scotia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The natural resources department has spent 60-thousand dollars on the first phase, which will let companies check the status of their applications for licences and permits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Flu, COVID-19, and R-S-V vaccines are now available across Prince Edward Island.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The flu and COVID-19 vaccines are available at no cost to all eligible Islanders aged six months and older, through family doctors, nurse practitioners, community pharmacies, and Public Health Nursing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This year, R-S-V protection is also available for eligible infants as well as seniors aged 75 and older through Public Health Nursing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
