Police in New Brunswick say a 53-year-old woman has died following a head-on collision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They say officers were called to a report of a two-vehicle, head-on collision on Route 585 in Nortondale on Monday morning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police say they believe the collision happened when the S-U-V crossed the centre line and collided head-on with a pickup truck going in the opposite direction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They say the 53-year-old woman — who was the only occupant of the S-U-V — was taken to hospital where she died, while the pickup truck driver suffered minor injuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Organizers behind a plan to establish North America\u2019s first coastal refuge for captive whales say the Nova Scotia government has granted them approval to start construction on the province\u2019s eastern shore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The U-S-based Whale Sanctuary Project says Premier Tim Houston\u2019s cabinet has approved a recommendation to grant the organization a 20-year lease for 83 hectares of Crown lands and coastal waters near Wine Harbour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The organization\u2019s online announcement links to a cabinet order on a government website that confirms the approval, which Houston’s government has yet to announce as of this morning. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Project organizers say the approval means they can start building a huge, floating net enclosure for whales and dolphins retired from marine theme parks like Marineland in Niagara Falls, Ontario.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Canada’s auditor general Karen Hogan says many of the living spaces used by Canadian Armed Forces members at several bases are in poor physical condition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hogan and her team examined living conditions on three Canadian Forces bases: Gagetown in New Brunswick, Esquimalt in British Columbia and Trenton in Ontario.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hogan says the buildings her team inspected were aging and decrepit \u2014 the oldest dates back to the Great Depression \u2014 and 32 of 35 need at least one high-priority repair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The audit says the agency does not have enough housing units to meet the military’s needs \u2014 just as the Canadian Armed Forces is looking to add more than six-thousand new members by April 2029. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary has charged a man and a woman for allegedly stealing more than 10-thousand dollars of leggings from Lululemon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The force says the theft happened Monday morning at the Avalon Mall in St. John\u2019s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The incident led officers to a home in Mount Pearl where they found 90 pairs of activewear pants, two crossbows, three pellet guns and a high-velocity paint gun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The R-N-C has received two dozen theft complaints this year from Lululemon and police believe thieves are selling stolen merchandise through social media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Part-time staff and teaching assistants at Halifax\u2019s Mount Saint Vincent University are set to strike as of 12:01 P-M today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The union has been in negotiations for several weeks, but was unable to reach an agreement at the final round of negotiations yesterday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Staff have agreed to halt assignments, teaching, and grading during the strike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Union members at Dalhousie University have also been in negotiations with their employer, and they reached a tentative agreement yesterday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Long-term care workers in Nova Scotia are set to rally outside of Premier Tim Houston\u2019s office this afternoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The union members voted to strike earlier this week, after working for two years with an expired contract.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Workers say they are concerned about low wages and chronic understaffing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The workers are set to gather outside of Houston\u2019s office in Westville today, where they will hear from speakers including N-D-P members Paul Wozney and Rod Wilson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
