The New Brunswick government is reminding residents of the winter resources it has available for residents experiencing homelessness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The province has 15 emergency shelters with a combined 500 beds, and most are open 24 hours a day. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
There are also community hubs that can provide assistance to unhoused residents in Saint John, Moncton and Fredericton, which are also open around the clock.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New Brunswick has won the 2025 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Over the weekend, Fredericton’s Team Comeau won gold at the tournament, hosted in Assiniboia, Saskatchewan. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The New Brunswick team took the win six to five over Ontario’s Team Mooibroek. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
This is New Brunswick’s third win at the Canadian Mixed Curling Championship, with the last win in 2007. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

(NS-Poppies-Court)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Two chief judges in Nova Scotia support individual judges who choose to ban wearing poppies in the courtroom. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Deborah Smith, chief justice of the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia, and Perry Borden, chief judge of the Provincial Court, say in a statement that the goal of a judge is to ensure the courtroom is a neutral and impartial place. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The judges say that wearing poppies in a courtroom could make people standing trial doubt the neutrality of the court. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Last week, Premier Tim Houston posted on social media that he was shocked to find out court employees needed permission from the presiding judge to wear a poppy in court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Houston called it disgusting and wrong, and said he would look at legislation enshrining the right to wear a poppy at work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(NS-Trailer-Park-Boys-Charge)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mike Smith, the actor behind the character Bubbles from Trailer Park Boys, has been charged with sexual assault for a 2017 incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Court documents say Smith was charged by Halifax Regional Police on October 2nd, and he appeared via his lawyer in court this morning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Crown was granted a publication ban on any information that could identify the alleged victim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Court documents show that Smith has been ordered not to communicate with or visit the workplace, home or school of the alleged victim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(NS-Universities-Strike)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Striking workers at two Halifax universities condemn the requests for binding arbitration. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Part-time faculty at both Mount Saint Vincent University and Saint Mary’s University say in a release that they received “seemingly coordinated” requests from both employers late Friday afternoon. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Union president Lauren McKenzie says the union has communicated the willingness to return to the bargaining table, but the timing of the requests from the schools makes it appear as if the employers are communicating with each other, but not the union. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Part-time faculty at Mount Saint Vincent have been on strike since October 22nd, and faculty at Saint Mary’s have been striking since October 23rd. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

(PEI-Building-Fire)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police are investigating a fire at an abandoned building in P-E-I. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
First responders arrived at the building in Miscouche early Sunday to find it engulfed in flames. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jason Woodbury, chief of the Miscouche Fire Department, says the building was a complete loss. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
R-C-M-P are now investigating and say it’s too early to know if the cause of the fire is suspicious. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
