The former leader of the People\u2019s Alliance party, who later was a cabinet minister under former premier Blaine Higgs, had been musing about a run.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Tories will elect a new leader to replace Higgs in October.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The New Brunswick government is spending 10-million dollars in an effort to make home care more affordable for seniors and people with disabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The province is increasing the income threshold needed to access home care by 10 per cent on New Year\u2019s Day, making more people eligible for support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Minister Lyne Chantal Boudreau says affordable care helps seniors stay in their homes for longer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(NB-Neurological-Illness)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
New Brunswick’s chief medical officer of health will release the final report from an investigation into cases of an undiagnosed neurological illness in January.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr. Yves Leger says the province has been working with the Public Health Agency of Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The provincial government has been investigating the mystery illness since 2021, when a group of 48 patients with a range of symptoms came forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
An initial investigation found no evidence of a common illness, and a report was issued in February 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
An analysis of new patient data began in March 2025 after new concerns \u2014 including more patients reporting unusual symptoms \u2014 were reported to Public Health. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tens of thousands of people were without power across Atlantic Canada after a storm with high winds pummeled the region. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nova Scotia’s largest utility says its crews have been working through challenging conditions to restore power as winds reaching up to 110 kilometres an hour hit much of the province Friday night into yesterday morning. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nova Scotia Power says hurricane-force wind gusts hit 120 kilometres an hour in parts of Cape Breton. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador and parts of P-E-I also experienced significant power outages due to damage from the storm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Newfoundland and Labrador’s opposition party is calling on government to remove the provincial sales tax from electricity bills to provide relief to residents struggling with the cost of living.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Liberal party says that since a seven per cent increase in electricity rates was approved, residents are starting to feel the squeeze even more as temperatures drop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Liberal leader John Hogan says government ought to be providing cost relief by removing its sales tax, and says the action should have been taken before the Christmas holidays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(NS-Heat-Pump-Changes)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At some point next year, Nova Scotians will no longer be eligible to receive up to 15-thousand dollars in federal funding to switch from oil to a heat pump.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Natural Resources Canada says while the Oil to Heat Pump Affordability Program is scheduled to end in 2027 in other parts of Canada, it will wrap up next year in Nova Scotia. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The department told C-T-V that due to high demand for the program, funding in Nova Scotia for the program will be used up in 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Natural Resources Canada, more than 9-thousand homes received heat pump rebates in Nova Scotia in the last three years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
