{"id":71513,"date":"2026-01-04T11:42:14","date_gmt":"2026-01-04T15:42:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.chmafm.com\/welcome\/?p=71513"},"modified":"2026-01-04T22:53:46","modified_gmt":"2026-01-05T02:53:46","slug":"holownia-presented-with-governor-generals-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.chmafm.com\/welcome\/holownia-presented-with-governor-generals-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Holownia presented with Governor General&#8217;s Award"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tantramar\u2019s own Thaddeus Holownia has once again earned national attention, recently being honoured as one of the recipients of this year\u2019s Governor General\u2019s Award in Visual and Media Arts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Holownia, a photographer, visual artist, teacher and publisher based in Jolicure, was one of 8 recipients, and the only Atlantic artist, to be recognized with one of this year\u2019s awards, which recognizes remarkable careers in the visual and media arts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThaddeus Holownia, a visual artist with a career spanning over four decades, stands out for his distinctive interpretation of time, place and the natural environment,\u201d states Mireille Eagan, curator of contemporary art, and John Leroux, manager of collections and exhibitions at the Beaverbrook Art Gallery, who nominated Holownia for the award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They also state in their nomination: \u201cHo\u0142ownia\u2019s photography goes beyond mere documentation, offering a contemplative reflection on the environment and its evolution over time. It is a profound dedication to place and the act of looking.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHis work, marked by [its] technical excellence and emotional depth, captures the beauty and complexity of our world and encourages a deeper reflection on our place within it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Governor General\u2019s Awards in Visual and Media Arts were created in 1999 by the Canada Council for the Arts and the Governor General of Canada.
