Environment Canada says snarled traffic and power outages are possible today as a snowstorm sweeps across Nova Scotia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The federal agency has issued a snowfall warning for the province\u2019s Atlantic coast, as well as the eastern half of mainland Nova Scotia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Total accumulation in those areas is expected to reach between 15 to 20 centimetres by Thursday morning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The rest of the province can expect between 10 and 15 centimetres of snow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New Brunswick\u2019s police oversight agency says a police officer in Grand Falls is facing multiple charges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Serious Incident Response Team says the charges relate to an allegedly inappropriate relationship with a minor last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The team says Constable Paul Lavoie of the Grand Falls Police Force was charged yesterday with five criminal offences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Four of the charges relate to child luring and making sexually explicit material available to a child — and one count of breach of trust by a public officer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A man accused of several attempted murders in St. John\u2019s is set to appear in court today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The family of Mitchell Rose says he has schizophrenia and he was removed from a court-ordered treatment program without them knowing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
His mother, Tridy Hickey, says he was in a state of psychosis when he is alleged to have attacked people in an apartment building on December 8th.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hickey says she called the mobile crisis unit for him earlier that day, but when he refused help, they say they couldn\u2019t do anything without the treatment order in place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(NS-Sipeknekatik-Emergency)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A First Nation in Nova Scotia says it is declaring a state of emergency over what its chief and council are calling an escalating crisis of addiction and illicit drugs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sipekne\u2019katik (SAH\u2019-beg-ah-nay-gah-dee) First Nation says its council moved to begin the process of declaring a state of emergency during a meeting Sunday, as the community deals with too many overdoses and tragedies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It did not provide details of how a state of emergency declaration would be applied.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The First Nation about 60 kilometres north of Halifax says it has notified the R-C-M-P that it will be supporting a 20-thousand-dollar reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of people selling illicit drugs in the community. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

(PEI-School-Safety-Report)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A new report on improving school safety in P-E-I is calling for the creation of a new sexual misconduct policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The provincial government commissioned the report in early May following several serious incidents related to student safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In September, P-E-I\u2019s child and youth advocate said students and families were losing trust in the education system because of the way schools were handling sexual misconduct allegations, along with issues of bullying and racism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The new report also recommends stronger background checks, improved training for staff and a closer relationship for law enforcement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Nova Scotia government says it is giving the province’s housing trust 15.7 million dollars in funding and loans to protect existing housing units. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The province says it is partnering with the Housing Trust of Nova Scotia to protect 90 units across three apartment buildings in Halifax.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Among those 90 apartment units are 62 that are considered affordable. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The province says the affordable one and two-bedroom apartments in these buildings cost between 828 and 16-hundred dollars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
