R-C-M-P in New Brunswick have issued a national alert after an inmate escaped from Southeast Regional Correctional Centre in Shediac.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mounties say 35-year-old Todd John Lewis jumped a fence and ran off toward Route 15 late Thursday afternoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He was previously charged with weapons-related offences and is considered armed and dangerous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police are advising the public not to pick up hitchhikers and report anything suspicious immediately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(NS-Historic-Sexual-Assault)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police in Halifax say they are concerned that a man recently convicted of sexual assault in Nova Scotia may be responsible for other sex crimes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Halifax Regional Police say the R-C-M-P in western Nova Scotia received a complaint from a woman in October 2022, alleging she had been sexually assaulted in the Halifax and Yarmouth areas in 2010.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A police investigation led to the arrest of 60-year-old Bruce Douglas Hatfield, who was found guilty of sexual assault and sexual interference in December 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During his trial, witness testimony suggested Hatfield had made trips between Yarmouth and Halifax with other young women, prompting police concerns there may be victims who have yet to come forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police did not release any other details as to why they think Hatfield may have other victims.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Supreme Court of Canada has ruled that pandemic-era travel restrictions in Newfoundland and Labrador were “reasonably justified.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The government\u2019s response to the outbreak included a temporary order to restrict entry to the province by most non-residents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The court said in a decision Friday that the policy did violate mobility rights but that was justified under a section of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The case was launched by a Nova Scotian woman who could not attend her mother\u2019s funeral and claimed the ban was unconstitutional.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The largest union in the Nova Scotia government is speaking out about the province\u2019s plan to end remote work this April.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The union says the change will impact between 25-hundred and three-thousand employees, with half in the Halifax area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It says many union members have had flexible arrangements since the pandemic in 2020, and have built their lives around them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The union says the move will worsen traffic in downtown Halifax and it\u2019s concerned the government doesn\u2019t have enough space to accommodate all its workers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nova Scotia\u2019s official Opposition leader is taking aim at the P-C government\u2019s 1.4-billion dollar deficit that she says is driven in part by spending happening behind closed doors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Claudia Chender says it’s irresponsible that government has been spending about a billion dollars a year over its budget \u2014 outlays that are not authorized by a majority vote in the legislature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She says it needs to be clear with Nova Scotians about where money is going as the deficit balloons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The province is set to release the next budget during the sitting of the legislature that begins February 23rd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The New Brunswick government has released a strategy to develop a more modern digital health system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The work will include implementing a new electronic medical records system for doctors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The government is adding 1.75-million dollars to the budget of a tentative new physician services agreement to pay for the work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Premier Susan Holt says the strategy will give doctors the tools they need to spend more time with patients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
