New Brunswick’s finances have slipped further into the red, with the government now projecting a deficit of 1.33-billion dollars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Finance Minister Rene Legacy released the province’s third-quarter fiscal update today showing the projected deficit has grown by almost 800-million dollars from the 549-million deficit in the spring budget.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The province is expecting around 372-million less in revenue, including from reductions in corporate and personal income tax along with less money from the harmonized sales tax.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(NB-SiRT-Sex-Offences)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
New Brunswick’s police watchdog is seeking information surrounding a New Brunswick police officer charged with sex offences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a release, the agency says it is asking any members of the public with information related to Paul Lavoie to contact them directly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The police oversight group says it was contacted by the Grand Falls police service on March 31st of last year, and it was suggested an active member had engaged in inappropriate contact with a minor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After an investigation, the agency says Constable Paul Lavoie was charged with multiple offences, including making sexually explicit material, child luring, and breach of trust. (The Canadian Press)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A bid by a U-S-based group to bring two captive killer whales from France to a proposed seaside refuge in Nova Scotia is facing fresh criticism from a well-known but polarizing anti-whaling campaigner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Founder of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society Paul Watson says he’s opposed to the Whale Sanctuary Project’s plans to place killer whales Wikie and Keijo in a huge, floating pen near Wine Harbour before the end of this summer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Watson took aim at the project during a meeting in Paris yesterday with government officials and whale experts, as well as representatives from the Whale Sanctuary Project and Spain’s Loro Parque zoo on the Canary Islands. (The Canadian Press)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(NS-Highway-102)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nova Scotia has awarded the contract for the next phase of improvements on one of the busiest sections of Highway 102 to a Montreal-based company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a release, the government said the W-S-P Global will produce preliminary design work for the roadway in Halifax between the exit at Bayers Road and exit 4-C to Highway 107.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
W-S-P is expected to work with Link Nova Scotia and the Department of Public Works on the project, which will cost 1.1-million dollars and is expected to take one year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(NL-WEA-Winter-Storm) (WATCH FOR DATING)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Environment Canada expects another major winter storm to barrel through eastern Newfoundland that started last night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meteorologist Rob Carroll says the storm will move across the southern Avalon and push into the northern Avalon shortly after.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Between 25 and 50 centimetres of snow is expected to fall on the region, with wind gusts up to 80 kilometres per hour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Mountie in Newfoundland was assaulted twice during a disturbance call in Sheshatshiu (sheh-SHAH’-shee) on the weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
R-C-M-P say one of their members responded to a disturbance involving two unwanted people at a home on Matshateu Street around 8-30 a-m on Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A 21-year-old Sheshatshiu man is facing two counts of assault on a police officer during his arrest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
