{"id":74848,"date":"2026-02-25T00:13:59","date_gmt":"2026-02-25T04:13:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.chmafm.com\/welcome\/?p=74848"},"modified":"2026-02-25T00:14:02","modified_gmt":"2026-02-25T04:14:02","slug":"tantramar-grab-a-seat-campaign-reaches-first-goal-200-seats-to-be-installed-soon-at-civic-centre","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.chmafm.com\/welcome\/tantramar-grab-a-seat-campaign-reaches-first-goal-200-seats-to-be-installed-soon-at-civic-centre\/","title":{"rendered":"Tantramar Grab-A-Seat campaign reaches first goal, 200 seats to be installed soon at civic centre"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tantramar civic centre users will soon be able to watch their hockey and skating in a little more comfort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The first round of spectator seating will soon be installed in the rink, thanks to a fundraising effort that was launched in 2025 called the Grab-A-Seat campaign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSo far the fundraising campaign has raised enough money for 215 seats,\u201d said director of Active Living and Culture Matt Pryde.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tantramar council approved the installation of the 200 20-inch seats at its February council meeting. The seats will be supplied and installed by Creative Sports Solutions of Darmouth, Nova Scotia at a cost of approximately $68,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The goal, said Pryde, is to raise enough funds &#8211; through the campaign, potential sponsors, and possible grants \u2013 for a total of 630 seats, which will be installed over the current concrete bleacher-style seating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe plan is in the future, as we raise more money, to install more seats,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The intention is not to spend any municipal funds on the project, although Tantramar\u2019s Director of Financial Services Michael Beal pointed out that if it comes down to it, once fundraising efforts have been exhausted, there could be funds budgeted in future years if warranted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThat is the initial plan, for the town to not to have to put any funds in. Once we complete the seat campaign and get to a certain point . . .. that can form a discussion as to, \u201cokay we have done 400 or we have done 500, let\u2019s complete it,&#8221; said Beal.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tantramar civic centre users will soon be able to watch their hockey and skating in a little more comfort.
