A trans woman incarcerated at a maximum-security men\u2019s prison is asking the courts to transfer her to a women\u2019s institution until her broader legal battle with the Correctional Service of Canada is decided.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Amanda Joy Cooper was convicted and imprisoned on multiple sexual assault and assault charges more than 20 years ago and received gender-affirming surgery in 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Since then, Cooper has tried to move to a women\u2019s prison without success, and is seeking a judicial review of a decision that moved her from a men\u2019s prison in New Brunswick to a men\u2019s prison in Ontario.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The judge is expected to rule on the application at a later date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The government of New Brunswick has launched a new strategy and action plan aimed at increasing physical activity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The province says the plan has five key principles which include supporting movement at every age and helping residents to build skills and motivation to be active. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Statistics Canada, only half of New Brunswick adults get the minimum of 150 minutes of vigorous physical activity weekly. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The province has launched a website with resources and tips to increase daily movement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Fundy Health Centre in Blacks Harbour, New Brunswick is getting a 1.5-million shot in the arm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The province government announced the funding Monday for infrastructure upgrades and extra staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That\u2019s expected to help the clinic take on more than 11-hundred new patients currently on the waiting list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The work is expected to take 18 to 24 months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As Ottawa incentivizes Canadians to buy electric vehicles or hybrids, Nova Scotia is making it more expensive to drive them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The province’s budget included a 500-dollar fee for electric vehicles and 250-dollar fee for hybrids to be paid every two years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It says the levy ensures electric and hybrid car owners are contributing to road maintenance since gas-reliant drivers are already contributing to roads through the provincial tax on fuel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Electric car owner Sal Falk lives in the rural South Shore and says the levy is “absurd” and punishes Nova Scotians who have chosen to drive low-emission vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Newfoundland and Labrador\u2019s minister of health has been assigned a sixth portfolio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lela Evans was sworn in yesterday as the minister of women and gender equality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She is also the minister of mental health and addictions, the minister responsible for the provincial health authority, the minister of Labrador affairs and the minister of Indigenous relations and reconciliation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The government says putting Evans in charge of women and gender equality strengthens collaboration across health, social and community systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prince Edward Island has established a special cabinet committee designed to cut down red tape and strengthen oversight of public spending.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The committee will also oversee the responsible use of artificial intelligence in the public service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
