A scrap yard owner in New Brunswick says a patchwork of provincial laws may encourage thieves to steal copper in one province and sell it in another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
D-R Scrap Metals owner Daniel Rinzler says New Brunswick requires dealers to check I-D from anyone looking to sell copper and other metals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He says that discourages thieves from selling copper in New Brunswick, but they can go to Nova Scotia or Quebec where no such rules exist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rinzler says people are desperate and they will find ways to steal and make money if they have to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(NB-Turkey Hunt)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
New Brunswick is adding an extra week to the annual wild turkey hunt, which runs for three weeks starting in May.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a release, Natural Resources Minister John Herron said the expansion will “offer more opportunities to hunters and contribute to local economies through tourism, licence fees, and outfitting and guiding services.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The department is also expanding the resident wild turkey draw to include active members of the Canadian Forces or the RCMP born in the province with a principal residence outside New Brunswick.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The application period for the non-resident licence draw now closes on the last Friday of November in the year before the hunting season. (The Canadian Press)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(NS-Legislature-Rules)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nova Scotians planning to visit the provincial legislature will no longer be permitted to read, write, draw or sketch during house debates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The edicts are part of new rules implemented after a late-night protest that included singing and shouting from the visitor galleries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
House Speaker Danielle Barkhouse had closed the legislature to visitors since March 25, the day after the protest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Barkhouse says visitors will no longer be allowed to sit in the front row of the east and west galleries, and an existing ban on clothes displaying words will be strictly enforced. (The Canadian Press)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(NS-Manslaughter)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A Nova Scotia man has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in a woman\u2019s death four years ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He is scheduled for a July 3 sentencing hearing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police have said the 72-year-old woman was murdered at a home on Pleasant Street in Kingsport on April 30th, 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Douglas Andrew Smith went to the R-C-M-P detachment in New Minas the next day to report the incident and turn himself in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Smith was charged with second-degree murder in the woman\u2019s death, and the case was set to go to trial next week. (CTV News)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(NL-Fraud)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The well-known former executive director of a local violence prevention organization in Newfoundland has been charged with defrauding the group of more than 135-thousand dollars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a release, the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary says 50-year-old Valerie Barter of Conception Bay South is facing several charges, including fraud, forgery, and mischief.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police started investigating in December of 2023 after they received a report from Violence Prevention Avalon East.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(PEI-Nurses-Midwives)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Island nurses and midwives are now overseen by a single regulatory body after two separate colleges merged to form the P-E-I College of Nursing and Midwifery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Until now, licensed practical nurses were regulated by one college, while registered nurses and midwives were regulated by another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Those two colleges have come together into a single organization that encompasses L-P-Ns, midwives, nurse practitioners, R-Ns and registered psychiatric nurses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The new college’s first C-E-O and registrar Melissa Panton said the merger made sense because the two bodies had already been working closely together for years. (CBC News)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
